Gavin Henson Return?

Gavin Henson is being linked with a return to Rugby union or league. Apparently he has been training and back to fitness. If his mind is focused then he would be my candidate to replace James should he leave.(Sm134)

For the love of God no. Butch is an unselfish, hardworking professional. Henson is an egotistical waster.

I actually wouldn't mind Henson coming. If he were fit and were prepared to knuckle down (which you have to imagine he is if he wants to return to rugby) he's a powerful runner, a gifted distributer and kicks for miles. I also think getting out of Wales would help him.

Sure it won't happen though, so it's irrelevant.

TBH, I think he'd do well from getting away from the goldfish bowl that is Wales.

However, that means getting well away from Wales, not a half hour hop over a bridge.

France, Melbourne or South Africa if I were him.

From a Bath perspective, he'd need to convince me that he had knuckled down, and left his past life behind him before I'd accept him; and that wouldn't be possible before a signature was made - so thanks, but no thanks. I'd far rather nick Charlie from Stale

Its true Henson is Mr.St Tropez, but even our own David Flatman named Henson as the most creative player he has played against in his articles! Prima Donna suggests all talk and no substance which doesn't echo his Grand Slam achievements. To me you dont always have to like the personality of a individual to credit his impact as a player. As always thanks for everyones thoughts.(Sm128)

Stigg - I really don't read it that way, Prima Donna is someone who may well be the best, but will leave no-one in any doubt that they think they're the best, and indeed, on a different level to anyone else. a 1 man, who's bigger than the team.
IMO there's no room for that attitude in my rugby team; even if he were on a different level to anyone else.

Personally I think those knocking the idea are being a little shortsighted, he is a quality player with a point to prove to his detractors, WT AND HN make good points, Bath is convenient to get home but is away from the claustophobic Welsh rugby environment. As has been said on other threads, there aren't that many class FHs available.I would give him a chance.Who knows, it could be excellent for both parties.

No room for primadonnas? Do you need your head read?? Sport is full of prima donnas. It's par for the course. Look the word up in the dictionary and you'll see the explanation as Lawrence Bruno Nero Dallaglio. He'd have been in my team, along with Motor Mouth Healy any day of the week.

If he was willing to come here, I'd sign Gavin Henson up at a shot. Utter class, and a destroyer of defences when he can be bothered. Offer him a pay as you play deal with the incentive of a full contract and see how it goes.

Do you have to be quite so rude simply because you disagree with someone else's point of view?

I would say no to prima donnas because they have a tendency to ruin team spirit and as we have only just got ours back after last summer this IMHO would not be a wise step to take.

think judging hensons character whilst knowing very little about his approach to rugby is a bit harsh. i thought he had a rep for being an extremely hard trainer and good pro before all his injury problems. its rarely by chance that you become one of the most gifted backs in the uk and getting out of the welsh goldfish bowl would benefit him i am sure.

saying that it would be a huge gamble, there are better options out there, but if his demands were sensible i personally wouldnt rule it out immediately/

Re-read it and imagine a confused grin, T&M, and assume I meant nothing rude.

I remain of the opinion that prima donna's are part of sport. Jerry Guscott and Victor can both be described as players who loved to posture and brag about how good they were, yet this never stopped them being brilliant players for us.

Henson has more of a reputation for upsetting his coaches than dividing a squad. I have no doubt he is a weirdo, but boy, what a player.

Like I said, a pay as you play deal offers the chance for either party to say good night if things go belly up.

Wasps should be the best place for him, where Edwards will either break or make him.

As mentioned above with a point to prove he could be a very dangerous player, and seeing Charlotte in the boater before hand for a cheeky vimto would be a good way to start the day (Sm128)

Henson was an exceptional player at fly half and centre.Besides having pace, power and
vision he was a terrific place-kicker- remember the 50 yard kick against England about 5 years ago In his prime I would love to have seen him in the bbw. But does he want to return to rugby? I am not aware that he has ever said that he does. Even if he does wish to return will he be able to regain his fitness? I read that he had spent hours in the gym over the past year concentrating on aerobic activitand losing a couple of stone. Could he recover the lost muscle? If he does want to return then he might find it less intrusive for himself and family to do so outside of Wales. Subject to his willingness to return and his commitment to regain the necessary level of fitness-and these are big 'ifs'-then I think that he is worth considering for an initial one year contract to avoid tying up risky money for a long period.
