Where would this extra money come from? The Premiership TV deal is worth ~1.5m per club per year, and that was a 50% rise on the previous contract.

It's hard to see that growing massively.

Nor is it likely that attendances will see big increases - only a handful of clubs are capped by the size of their stadia.

I agree, unless we stick to the salary cap and maybe introduce other levelling devices (independent academies with a draft structure?), then there will only be 2 or 3 rich clubs, another 4 or 5 break even scrapers-by, and the rest clinging on.

If you cut the size of the Prem you cut the number of Prem weekends, so cut the value to TV - unlikely to see much of a gain per team.

So, how about a consolidation of the quality entertainment in a Euro League Stu?

Sums don't work Bod. Try doing the maths.

You'd have to scrap the HC as there just aren't enough weeks in the year otherwise. The AP might get away with playing on international weekends, but a Euro showpiece couldn't.

Then you have to ask why a Euro league would bring in more cash than the existing HC.

And it would kill he AP as a revenue raising competition

You'd end up massively worse off.

It just doesn't survive 5 mins thought as an idea.

Depends on who's doing the thinking, surely? Intelligent design theory involved alot of thought for example.

What have advertisers got to do with it? If you think rugby on TV is an ad funded model that might explain why you come up with these wombat-crazy schemes.

Come on Stu - we only have a few weeks left to crack this one - what's your insider knowledge?

No insider knowledge Bod, just the fact the sport on satellite channels is funded almost entirely by subscription revenues from us punters, and payments from pubs and clubs, not advertisers.

Advertising revenue makes up an extremely small part of their revenue - not least because there are no ad breaks during games.

As you hadn't realised where the money was does cast some doubt on your "follow the money" threads.

So what motivates the Satelite broadcasters?
Purely subscriptions?
Or developing a viewing product that has great potential for advertising spend?

This post is more like ping pong than Rugby. It certainly now contains no player news/rumours/injuries etc.It is a perfect example of why I no longer post and probaly why Glen feels the way he does. Back to you TCM and Bod!

TBH, the whole point of sticky threads is to keep on topic; albeit that this thread is now defunct as the season has ended; it wasn't when you guys hijacked it.

Totally agree with the above.

It would be of great benefit to the site (from my point of view) if subjects stayed on the topic mentioned in the thread title. I only have limited time I can spend on here and often feel I have wasted it when I see there are new posts on a topic I am interested in only to read about something entirely different. On other sites I go on if the posts are off topic of the thread they are moved to another part of the forum where that subject can be talked about and the original thread stays to the point.

Now look what I've done... sorry for going OT.

Players wanted! Any one who wants to get into or back into rugby or just fancies the odd game for Sutton Benger RFC, PM me.

For what it's worth, I've not problem with threads evolving, even if it means a second thread starts to continue the original discussion (though a note in the thread title when it moves away would be nice, and a lot of work for mod.s).

However, sticky threads, especially ones like this designed to be updated and on topic throughout the season, should stay on topic; otherwise we get a hundred different, little threads covering the same ground again and again.

I see your points, however, given the 2011/12 season is over for Bath shouldn't the sticky be dropped?

Yes, however this thread was dragged off topic before the end of the season.
However, I'm not a mod, and have no power to de-stick a thread.
Given the current politics of the board, I doubt that the remaining mods have the inclination to do so.

Hi all, seems as though my first ever post may also be my last, on this site at least.

While I'm on the subject, I've no intention of commenting on the politics and personalities that have caused the site to shortly be closed but can say I've enjoyed reading the comments and will be sad to see ere go.

As someone who lives in Dorchester and works in London, it's certainly made me feel closer to Bath rugby and for that I say thankyou.

Right, on the basis this thread is supposed to be about new players, rumours etc, can someone please tell me who the rumoured mew 13 is going to be?

Cheers!
