I wonder if Carraro is off because he has herd that there will be more competition for the centre places next season

I don't think there is evidence of anything of that quality being signed

agreed Bod however we do seem to have a lot of cash to splash & generally the more impressive the signing the tighter the PR control (who had a clue about Butch before the club was ready to announce it.)

Re: New Signings for 2012
marshie10 06 March, 2012 12:57
Noidea, I don't think there's quite as much money as we think. A lot of money has gone into increased contracts. If we had the money to get Gethin Jenkins, we would have done.

Certainly a bit more in the coffers with the sad news about Moody.

No need for that really - if you have nothing to say why bother?

With Beast, Dixy, Belly, Biller & Fury leaving, possibly Carraro & MMM and now Moody we would seem to have some change left from signing Webber & Day.

If you then add on the extra added to the salary cap , the marquee player budget & the full academy uplift bonus I think it's fair to say we have a sizeable budget for extra new players.

On the face of it, yes. But Marshie has suggested that we have weighted contracts towards next season knowing that the salary cap uplifts were coming.

Re: New Signings for 2012
marshie10 06 March, 2012 13:40
As Dan has said, players are bound to be asking for more money when they know that the club has more capacity to pay them that money. If you want to keep your players you need to make some compromises, although I know that the club are not good at this, Carraro's departure being the prime example.

I was told that we offered him a fair amount of wedge but his agent tried to play us off against the French & it would have compromised other signings, so it was decided to use the cash on something else.

I am pretty sure the club would not have entered into negotiations if they didn't have the budget set aside in the first place. I accept your point about increased cash for contract uplifts but I doubt the club would have allocated so much cash that it would result in the squad getting smaller.

Re: New Signings for 2012
marshie10 06 March, 2012 13:46
We were only really ever intending to get Webber, Day and one other, possibly two. But that will have changed with Moody and Carraro's departures. I'm very disappointed that Carraro is under valued by the club, I think it's frankly disgraceful.

Here, here Marshie I think its an absoulte disgrace about Matty C somebody at the club needs to get a whooping for whats happened regarding him.
Im very sorry to hear about Moody he was a great player, a great player but I think we need to bulk up the squad in order to challenge for honours next season

Carraro has been, by some margin, our most consistent back both in attack and defence throughout his time here. Either the management are philistines or they have someone better in the hoist. Take your pick!

He's never really nailed down the 13 shirt for some reason - which could well be the main reason he's leaving

I wish we knew why, as it would be a rare fan team sheet which didn't include him.

Carraro will be a massive miss for us, he always brings not only solid defence but guile and threat to our attack which seems to be sadly missing when he doesn't play. An adequate replacement does not spring readily to mind!!!

The last pension-seeking southern hemisphere lock we signed turned out to be a real success.

There's no question Brad Thorn is 1/8 of the @#$%& and ten times the player Harrison proved to be, but were he the sum of Bath's ambition they'd be better off pulling Danny back out of retirement.

What Bod said. Of course, nothing to stop them signing players once an agreement has been reached with a new coach but before he's announced. Out of interest, if it is a Saffa coach, will he be in place for pre-season?

I don't think the coach will be South African, I think he'll come from a South African team though...
