Great coach to learn from. Like with brand Haskell and Catt's rumoured journey around the world, having a journey and picking up new ideas and methods could bring them back a more rounded player/coach. Stops insular thinking.

This seems to go on a lot in Cricket at the moment. However from what I've heard from those involved, the tendency is for the player to shine in Oz or NZ and then struggle to break into the county when they get back for whatever reason...

Until the Management start acting a little more like they know what is needed for Bath Rugby Ltd to be successful on the pitch then the little nudges will remain.
It's a compare and contract exercise to try and design a "best practice" model Stuart....that is if Bath wish to adopt such a philosophy in the way the go about their business.
If you find it uncomfortable and valid then it must be working!

I guess the point Bod is trying to make is other teams are building their squads for next season, whereas we haven't done anything on player recruitment to improve the squad. Granted this is very difficult without a coaching set-up in place.

Is there any evidence that we're not doing anything? or are we simply not announcing things as we don't have a (pulicly) confirmed coach yet?
After all, very, very few signings are announced on the day the paperwork is signed - TBH I'd doubt that there's ever been one since rugby turned pro

Bod I really doubt the management read this site and if they do I'm sure they pay very little attention to someone who shouts his mouth off.

Making Stuart uncomfortable, if that's what you think you're doing, I have my doubts, will have very little impact on club strategy.

We've made three signings so far (well, two and a half; by all accounts James is a gimme), including a current England international.

Not enough given who's left, but not nothing.

Good point.
We were told to expect 3-4 new signings, you could add another for Moody's retirement; but they may well decide not to if the squad is better balanced anyway.
So far we've had 3 signings (Jones seems to be all but confirmed), 2 of whom are capped internationals; and the third of whom is infitely better than the man he's replacing (ie, he actually exists).
Academy upgrades don't tend to get announced yet, but we have had 3 (Fertiliser, Cap.n Cook, TH).

Expect the coaches to be announced, Jones to be announced, and 1-2 more names, who've probably already signed the paperwork (likely a utility back, maybe an 8, depending on Fearns)

I don't find it uncomfortable, I find it rather sad that you think it has any influence on anyone.

I certainly don't find it valid, especially as you normally say it after linking to signings which if we made them would be slammed on here as being deeply "meh", such as this most recent 28 year old winger from a 2nd division French team.

Whilst he may turn out to be brilliant, Tigers have an interesting track record with world class Fijian backs and, until I see him on the pitch, I am not going to beat myself up too much abaout the way in which we missed out on his signature.

If you actually read my post I said "nothing to improve the squad". The confirmed signings add nothing IMO. 1 player who will spend most of his time away with England and is debatable whether he is an improvement on what we have. The other adds nothing really other than squad numbers. Neither player will improve our chances of success.

Re: New Signings for 2012
TCM2007 27 April, 2012 18:53
Have to disagree with you there. We've added depth at lock (who is our 4th choice currently?) and suggesting that adding an EPS hooker and a Wales international prop isn't improving the squad suggests you are rather overrating who we currently have.

Re: New Signings for 2012

No point adding EPS players to the squad they spend too much time away with England or wasting time on pointless rest breaks. EPS players don't add anything IMO.

We haven't added any Welsh player yet, pure speculation until formally announced by the club.
