Don't know who the two players are noidea. It's all very well them wanting to come, but can we squeeze them into the cap, I'd guess we can, because Bismark is not one of them. We don't have enough cap for him alone!!

I'd like the Beast and Kankowski, both to come next year to replace Flatman and Taylor respectively. I'd like Jacques Fourie to replace Carraro, in my opinion we need an out and out 13 to replace Carraro and compete with Williams. Pietersen is an out and out winger trying his hand at 13, again, in my opinion.

They were both signed before it was reported that BC had decided to appoint a new head coach so were probably SIM signings. It seems quite reasonable to presume that any further signings, particularly use of the Moody cap money, will wait until a new coach is found.

Decent squad Cooch, abject gameplan all season seemingly junked (on orders???) for an offloading gameplan that takes (took) years to perfect in the blind hope it would beat Tiggers. I'm shocked and horrified by the paucity of rugby logic in that decision. Would the club care to name and shame the idiot?

Re: New Signings for 2012
Bod 09 March, 2012 22:32
I'm sure there are a lot of exceptionally honest players on the squad that will unfortunately have to move on if Bath can attract the correct Coaching team to fulfil BC2's objectives.

I know you'll all laugh at me as you did when I directed my fire at SIM from the day the first whispers of his association with Bath were first raised through the grape vine - but the bigger picture Bruce need to plan towards is a EuroLeague, probably within the next 5-10 years - and if Bath ain't up to scratch by then we'll be frozen out of a RL style system where you can only gain accession every 3-4 years.

TV will push it that way. And, as NB has outlines before, they call the shots.

Food for thought at Fort Farleigh.

So you wanted them to play a way which you have strongly criticised and which has met with no success, rather than trying to play the way you want them to play, and which has had some recent results.

Re: New Signings for 2012

We need to replace Barkley as he has lost his pace and cannot put people into space when he is so slow to react and pass. He nearly gave away an interception try in the first 10 minutes and then gave the ball away very soon after that. How can we let Cararo go when we are positively weak in the centre!

As mentioned above, other top Prem sides have developed a full Squad of players who are all fit and want to fight for their places and why the United has been wasted and takes such a battering as these other sides take their reserve ganmes very seriously and treat them as a test for squad players.

Completely appreciate this wont happen but, for us to be competitive next season, IMHO, we must sign in addition to Webber and Day (which I reckon to be two astute signings), in order of priority;

- first a foremost a new head coach, backs and forwards coach. For me the head coach has to be somebody who installs a win at all costs attitude as Bath has been too cosy cozy a club for nearly two decades. As much as it pains me to say it, but look at the likes of Leicester. They don't shrug their shoulders and say they gave it a good shot when they lose; they are devastated and then, come Monday, put their frustration into training so it doesn't happen again.

- a loose head. Flats is a top man, but he is no longer a top prop. This is a professional environment in which he plays and where his position is key; I don't think anything else needs to be said. Catty and Beech are great prospects, especially Catty, but we need a top prop now, in order that we aren't asking relatively inexperienced and undeveloped props to bail the club out at scrum time. And it is the scrum and line out where the the vast majority, if not practically all, matches are won and lost. The idea of Bath being 'happy with what they have got' needs to be looked at very hard as it is plain to everyone in the game that the club are hugely vulnerable in this pivotal area.

- a scrum half. Claassens, like Flats, is a top bloke. Unlike Flats he has many more years left in him but for almost the entire season he has been too slow in thought and woefully poor in execution. Wood is a great prospect but is not there yet in terms of his complete game. I would sign a competitive nine to keep the other two 'honest'. Its again a pivotal area, and one we cannot 'get by' with under performing players.

- An outside centre. I have no idea why the Club do not appear to be scrapping to keep our best centre, Carraro, but if he goes we are left with Hipkiss, yet another player past his best IMHO. We need a player who keeps the opposition guessing and at present, bar our back three, we dont have that.

- An eight. We have too many players who are good but dont necessarily push one another for selection. For me Fearns is our 6, Louw the 7 and at 8, at present, Taylor. But as good a player as he is, in a slow match you need your big ball carriers, which he is not. We need more from this position to gain us the hard yards.

For me therefore its three new coaches and six new players, if we want to be competitive. If the desire of BC is to just about keep the club in the premiership, then only a few of these and keep pointing at the achievements off the pitch. Its time for some brutal honesty come end of the season and, most likely out of the Heineken, if ever there was a time to lay out your intent, for BC it must be now or never.

I'm a touch confused Gareth, you've been complaining since you returned to the forum that we've played with no game plan and we tried to play more heads up on Friday night, almost Meehanesque with offloading and running at people you complain.

It did seem a little odd to me to revert to Meehan style rugby when we couldn't beat Tigers in any semis with him in charge either.

If we are signing from the Sharks, Meyer Bosman could be on the cards - low-profile quality player to replace carraro.
