Never seen him play, but why is a player who didn't make the S15 squad and is leaving his current club because they are being relegated to the French 3rd div necessarily a "shrewd signing"? Or do you know something about him?

C'est par le biais de Laurent Travers et Laurent Labit que Castres a annoncé, dans une vidéo publiée sur le site du club, les arrivées de Mihaita Lazar (Aix en Provence), Christophe Samson (RCT), Puila Faasalele (La Rochelle), Antonie Claassen (CAcool smiley, Pedrie Vannenburg (Ulster), Marcel Garvey (Worcester), Brice Dulin (Agen).

Re: New Signings for 2012
Pie-Half 24 April, 2012 11:08
If it were up to me, the squad needs front 5. Big angry nasty ones. We are too soft/lightweight up front. The set-piece is a joke. Any side that gets bullied by Wisps should be embarressed.
2 hookers, Webber(hmm), and then one more. I would like to see George come. Eng age group and has to be thinking, what am i doing behind Brits and Smith, if he has any Eng aspirations. Could come in and hold the position down for decade.
Props, both side, we have retirements and too soft. The only 2 worth their salt, of ones we have available for next year are Catt and Perinese. Wilson is not even a Championship prop. Slow laboured no skill in the tight or loose, How has he got any caps. I would gho as far as to say he is worse than Tim Payne. Flatman must have numb fingers as he can never get a bind and when he does he gets folded up.

The club could do much worse than sign up as many of this years u20 and last years eng/wales as possible. Blood and build for the future.

Same in the second row, Caldwood and Hooper try their best bnut they are not HCup standard. Attwood has been a real anti-climax.

The backs dont go from beinfg exciting players last 2 seasons to useless in 1 to 2 years, They need the fwds to get a solid platform decent ball from set piece, then get some go forward with ball in hand, running tryline to tryline, rather than at 45degrees at best. The money woul;d best be spent on the pianoshifters. Sort out the forwards and they will take care of the backs.

Anyway,M Catt yes and then smoeone to get the lumps working.
Sorry if you feel this is the wrong thread but pains me to see the club where it is and with no real direction and leadership.

I agree Pie-Half with most of your post.

We are and have been too soft and lack grunt and muscle (and fist) up front for 2/3 seasons and even in Danny's last two years he was far to 'gentle' and sportsmanlike for my liking! Trouble was he was on his own because none of the other fluffies could hack it when the going got tough!

I feel the same about Mr Wilson but have been castigated by many on this board and the players for my views! I would NOT go so far as to say he was worse than Payne, but Payne did have a good game on Saturday. So perhaps Wilson can get better too!!! I hope he can really improve and prove me wrong but I have my doubts!

I feel Caldwell could be very good and he has certainly shown the spirit and effort, starting nearly every game. Just needs a few more stone and more days in the gym!

My views on Mr Hooper also are well documented and again I am held up as being very negative and 'poisoness ' for stating what I have seen in front of me! Again lets hope he can really get some grunt and spite from somewhere to add to his undoubted popularity with the players and some on this board!

Piano shifters FIRST then give the backs decent fast clean ball and watch the backs improve. Remember the axiom- 'Forwards win the matches and the backs decide by how many!'

Based on what I saw Saturday if Bath are looking for a no 8 then that kiddie Billy Vunipola is an animal at the base and carried very strongly! Esp after Hooper nearly went over and Wasps turned over Bath at the scrum
Was quite impressed with Wade too and Sam Jones
If Wasps go under then Id like Bath to snap up these 3 guys

Is it's Bath's function (based on the understanding that they are a private Limited Company) to produce players for England, or produce players that win the prizes for the club?
If the latter, then the academy should be stuffed full of the best talent from wherever it can be located - a bit like the Prem Soccer teams I would argue.

Article from 1997

The 14 academies are a "JV" with the RFU with the aim to develop the most talented players, many of whom will be expected to become professional rugby players. The pathway is nearly always via county rugby and starts at U14 level. No point in comparing Football clubs to professional rugby clubs, two completely different beasts, as is the player development program. (No transfer fees in Rugby!!)
Maybe a little less posting on ERE and use that time to educate yourself about infinitely superior English Rugby rather than those ” line dancing” kiwis you are always harping on about.

Can a club establish an independant Academy structure to suit its own aims? Given the increasing number of overseas players in the England squad this system seems quite inefficient don't you think?

Poaching kids from Kolpak countries is no kind of development strategy for me.

I know you're in favour of mystery overseas plans to extract foreign players, but we'd be much better concentrating on bringing on home grown talent, and top up with a few seasoned foreign pros.

YMMV.

It's a very poor option though and inconsistent with ultimate desire to be best - French sides are starting to load their academies with imports - also to benefit FFR through residence qualification

I don't think it's a very poor option. It's provided the youngsters who are doing the business at Leicester, Saints, Quins etc.

You seem to have a bit of an internal conflict Bod. You've frequently spoken of how important you think it is to grow the game in emerging nations. But you also want to steal their young talent - surely one thing that would prevent rugby taking root in those countries. I think you should make your mind up.

By the way, looked at the Toulouse academy to see what you were talking about - all French, except for three New Zealanders. I suppose if you have to raid smaller nations, weakening the kiwis is acceptable.
