From what source do you gather this and what benchmark?

Geech mentioned it @ the Q&A at the Rec. Brad was very positive about that improvement

Where is the improvement being best witnessed to bear out the Geech/Brad/player statements? First team performances and results? United performances and results?
Gelling/Syncing/Developing better inter-squad nicknames?

Anyone?

It is perfectly possible for people to think that method a is preferable to method b without being able to demonstrate it with win stats.

OK - please imagine what/how the non-tangible, notional betterment is derived? Forget the tangible stuff - I agree that'd be a lot harder for you to stack up or even consider as a comparative plus this season.

Surely it's not hard to see how the Academy training being integrated with the senior squad will make it easier for them to feel part of the team, and to step up when required. Not to mention that the small size of the Academy squad would make full practice games very hard.

Stu,

Bod has a point, you're amongst the first to question mere speculation but have clearly speculated there. I have no problem with speculation, it livens the board and I'm happy to do so myself but you've erred into a slightly self-contradictory area there.

Re: New Signings for 2012

I reported what others had said, that's all. I clearly stated it as such. That others had said it is not speculation.

I have nothing against "mere speculation", I don't know why you say that. I have lots against people stating things as facts when the are "mere speculation" though.

Sorry if you have already mentioned this guys, but am new to the site, (used the old one), but 20 players are out of contract with Cardiff come June. Apart from gethin are there any that we want/need?
Also if the Saffacens are signing Ashton and all the other players, then surely they must be letting some go. Obviously the dont pay their players at all and they all just play for the love of the game whicgh is why they can afford such a squad, but surely some must want foirst team action. I wouldn't mind signing the young winger Short if he becomes available as a starter.

Above all, I would love us to sign some gnarly front 5 players.

Saw Kvesic mentioned as well and i think he could be a real class act as well.

Virginity gone.

Kvesic for me is the best young player in the country but we will never prise him away and if we could we could field a side of back row players nearly.

Ok, Brits is out of the equation, more than happy with Webber- by all accounts he is getting better every game.

It also means we still have a pretty large pot for other players.....
Do we think the marquee will be a porp?

I would still like us to sign Morgan, but I guess we will go for another lock instead, but there could be enough in the pot for both if Beaver is our marquee player?

I also think we could do with a lighting quick back

What do you think?

Re: New Signings for 2012
Bri 31 January, 2012 20:28
I'd like a new 12 a loose head,second row.
If Belly goes I hope we keep Lilley,if they both go another tight head.

Re: New Signings for 2012
King Curtis 31 January, 2012 20:40
I think Donald is going to be our marquee player. I think the club will have put him on a middling salary this season and then much higher for the following two seasons thus counting it outside the cap.

I heard from a reliable source that he's the highest paid player in England so would make sense to count him outside the cap.

Re: New Signings for 2012
Dan Wiley 31 January, 2012 21:17
Marshie told me (us) that SD was the most expensive player in England. Might be true, I really believe we've got carried away with the idea of signing Carter and paid as much for something close if it is.

Can't see a new midfield player coming in. Between SD, TH, Ob1, Vesty, Williams and Hipkiss we're covered.

Is flats off? Otherwise Catt, Flats and Beech is plenty of loooseheads.

A second row we need. But I can't think of a WC second row I'd spend a marquee salery on.

Re: New Signings for 2012
TCM2007 31 January, 2012 21:41
Knowing if Donald is the best paid player in England requires knowing the salaries of the best paid players at every club. I'm not clear who has that kind of access to payroll data.

Damien Hopley at the RPA.

I don't think we need to sign a LH, perhaps a 7th choice/cover prop if belly leaves. Other than that we only really need a lock and maybe a 9 depending upon MMM.

Re: New Signings for 2012

Well if Donald is going to be made marquee, then surely taking that out of our limit should open huge space. What about Adam Jones and Gethin. Both want to stay in the valleys, and we can offer them comparitive salaries to France T14 with the burden of Donald out the way. Also as suggested LM may be forced to retire, we will then be able to get Morgan at 8 (family Brizz ties), or a top notch 2nd row. However in the row, there is no one that jumps out. No real quality NH 4/5's. The available ones in SH are all at the end of their career. Would have taken Skivington, but he is at L.I. now.

Re: New Signings for 2012
Rob 01 February, 2012 10:22
I have been told that Ben Morgan is signing for Gloucester as Narraway is off to Saints.. He started there and they let him slip through the next, so they are keen to grab him back.

We really do not need a No.8, especially one that is away with International Duty. More than happy with Taylor and a back row of Louw and Fearns.

I really hope we sign a prop that can (metaphorically) rip the opposition a new ar5ehole in the scrum. I would love to sign a scrum half to take over from Classens - I heard rumours we are after Joe Simpson? That would be a superb signing.

I think we really need to decide where we are going to play Banners, and stick to that. Him being versatile is not helping his England chances. He is, IMHO, better on the wing with Barkley and Hipkiss/Williams or hopefully Eastmond at 13. If we decide Banners is going to play for us at 13, then we should spend a decent wodge of cash on a winger. Biggs is our stand out winger and someone needs to help!

If you were to cherry pick from the Falcons or Wasps, I would take:

Newcastle

Murray, TH
Golding, LH
Hudson, 2row
Goparth, FH

Wisps

Launchbury, 2row
Rees, 7
Elliot Daly, OC
Wade, W

Re: New Signings for 2012

I note SIM recently said that key positions such as hooker & scrumhalf need at least 3 quality players each.

So we have Mears , Webber & Batty as Hookers; Claassy, Cook & MMM as SHs.I'm probably reading more into this then there actually is, but would MMM & Batty be considered quality players?

Re: New Signings for 2012
bathfanstuckinhighwycombe 01 February, 2012 13:06
Out of all of those people Id take proably Wade, Davy and Gopperth
I agree with wat Humpo is saying we dont need a no 8 at the moment Taylor and Skirving are good enough and Louw/Fearns can cover we just need about 3/4 more signings IMO

Re: New Signings for 2012
Rob 01 February, 2012 13:14
Elliot Daly should be a target from Wasps.

He is absolutely incredible and so so young. 13 is a position we need to reinforce and to have him there would be fantastic. Vision, great in defence and out and out pace.

Hasn't Gopperth been down to LI, his missus is keen as she has family in London. Also heard that from a knuckle dragging friend that the Narraway move maybe off as Saints don't fancy sigining another player likely to be called up for the EPS.

Ike Murray though,he would be a great addition.Golding is not as good as Catt and Beech.
Van haven or something like that is a very good second row but is a kiwi,Hudson would also be good( ex academy)?

I think so. I seem to recall getting a new SH being mentioned by management only in the context if MMM isn't fit to re-sign.
