Where is Attwood? Hadn't seen anything about him being injured?

I'm guessing Hooper will be captiain, disappointingly?

Rucking Carl 17 February, 2012 12:04
Where's Attwood? Surely this isn't a time to rest him, against his old club in a hugely important match and he doesn't even make the bench.

I'm glad to see Hoops back though, he is our most intelligent player and I think we'll need that in this sort of game.

Given availability, seems like the best team. Great to see Catty starting.

Rucking Carl 17 February, 2012 12:06
Just read on official website that Attwood has struggled to get over a groin strain.

Has ATtwood now missed both derby's,is it in his contract?
Worried supporter.

Hamptonite 17 February, 2012 12:07
I wonder if Dave Attwood was out at the last minute as Josh Ovens was in the Bristol team for Sunday and is now on the bench.

Decent front row with plenty of mobility although I think this game will be won, or lost, up front!

I think we just need to keep the ball away from their backs... and forwards.... come to think of it, their half backs as well!

Re: Team's Up vs. Gloucester - COME ON BOYS!!!
joehousewife 17 February, 2012 12:11
Why Vesty? had IMHO an absolute shocker last week, kicked so poorly.

I think Catt, Mears and AP will go well.

Backs might struggle.

Tricky=Legend 17 February, 2012 12:12
No Flatman at all? Selection choice or injury I wonder?

Mobile pack, need to play the right way to make the most of it though. They will struggle if we get drawn into a forwards slog.

dr.bath1865 17 February, 2012 12:13
Our best team available.

Banahan v Tindall should be tasty and Heathcote v Burns should be fascinating. A real shame about Attwood but good to see Hooper back. We will also miss Bendy greatly. I think Vesty is a decent player but he had a shocker last week - his kicking from hand was dreadful and if he kicks as poorly to this Glos back 3 we will be punished.

I think we need our best performance of the season to win this. Given our recent improvement in form I think a really good 80 minutes can't be far off. Come on Bath!

Re: Team's Up vs. Gloucester - COME ON BOYS!!!
Robbinho 17 February, 2012 12:13
Vesty best and safest option with Bendy out, I'd say. Much rather have him in there than Cuthbert.

Re: Team's Up vs. Gloucester - COME ON BOYS!!!
joehousewife 17 February, 2012 12:17
I thought I prefered Vesty but last week his kicking was so,so poor. I think Cuthbert may have been better option.

I like the look of Beech,Bell, Ovens, Carraro and Mercer coming on with 20 to go, I think we'll sneak it by 6pts!
18-12.

Re: Team's Up vs. Gloucester - COME ON BOYS!!!
Old Bathonian 17 February, 2012 12:19
Well with Hooper in we have a vastly de-powered scrum. I don't understand why we could not have Skirving in the second-row and Ovens at 6?

How on earth Vesty gets to start after last week is beyond me though......

More interestingly I see the offy has no "Capt." listed.

If we had Attwood & Bendy playing I'd be a lot more confident......

Re: Team's Up vs. Gloucester - COME ON BOYS!!!
dr.bath1865 17 February, 2012 12:22
If we had Carter, McCaw, Clerc, du Plessis, O'Connor playing I'd be a lot more confident too...

Re: Team's Up vs. Gloucester - COME ON BOYS!!!
Griff 17 February, 2012 12:36
Decent side, IMO Vesty is a safer option than Cuthbert. Good to see Catty starting and a huge blow Attwood is out with a groin strain, imagine management gave him as much time to get over it as the could.

Shame Cuthbert isn't playing, need to be giving time

Safer at kicking the ball directly back to the oppo...

Tricky=Legend 17 February, 2012 12:50
Cuthbert has had a fairly long lay off so could be something to do with that.

Lots of you are right though (and it was also pointed out on the Rugby Club last night) if we kick carelessly to their back three we will be in big trouble.

I can't imagine anything else but seeing Hooper lead the team out, but I suppose we won't know until tomorrow.

Glad we have the impact of Mercer and Ovens available. Both will be strong when the game breaks up.

Massive miss in Attwood if you ask me, Hooper is going to have to really pull out the stops to prove that he should be in instead of Skirving who I thought had a good game in the second row the other week.

Re: Team's Up vs. Gloucester - COME ON BOYS!!!
ziderman 17 February, 2012 12:51
Wouldn't be surprised if Hooper's isn't fully match fit and that we'll see Skirving swap to lock and Ovens come on sooner than later.

Time to say thanks Hoops but Francois is skipper now, then when Attwoods back we can pick our best two locks in Caldwell and Attwood without any Captaincy problems.

pubtime 17 February, 2012 12:58
Hairy backs team is not dissimilar and perhaps marginally weaker than the team that struggled against Wuss.... If Bath are on their game and continue to control, which they have done in recent weeks, conceding silly penalties I don't think they will have too many problems.... C'mon you BARRFF

Re: Team's Up vs. Gloucester - COME ON BOYS!!!
King Curtis 17 February, 2012 13:00
I'm surprised at their back row, they must have major injury problems there? I've heard of Qera but not the other two.

I agree this is the best team available. Vesty is better ball in hand than distance kicking and needs to think about counter attacking options ahead of aerial ping pong.

Very glad they've kept the same backs from last week as it should provide continuity and hopefully they'll start playing with greater assurance as a unit

Attwood is a blow though I don't think the presence of Hooper will do our lineout any harm. And it's good to see both young props starting in such a key game - great experience for both

I think we can shade this but it's going to be close

johnnyf 17 February, 2012 13:04
We'll struggle - to beat Gloucester we need the best team on the pitch - and this isn't it.

Re: Team's Up vs. Gloucester - COME ON BOYS!!!
pubtime 17 February, 2012 13:09
yes maybe if we were playing their best team but we aren't and they have struggled away..! Our game plan will include nulifying their young flyers and Im sure Burns will be targeted.. Going to be a great tactical game

Louw should absolutley smash burns! Ouch Freddie!

Pray for rain, that could help slow their backs down.

C'mon Brian why so pessimistic??? Im expecting to see some inspired performances from members of the Bath team.... Cant wait!!

Yes we can do it,ATtwood a huge loss.looking forward to seeing Catty smash Harden and Beech up against a 21 year old

Re: Team's Up vs. Gloucester - COME ON BOYS!!!
Rob 17 February, 2012 13:39
Whilst I think Tom Heathcote is a good player, is is not in the same league as Burns (yet), and all suggestions of him being so are slightly misguided IMHO.

I hope Louw is right up in Burns' face but he is not that kind of player, unlike Moody who will be fantastic to come on in the last 20 and just let loose (like he does best).

If Burns can control the game and turn Woodburn, releasing May and Sharples against Woodburn and Vesty then we are in big trouble. Woodburn was fantastic in attack but poor in defence. Whilst this is a good team, I would have gone with experience and put Banners on the wing and Carraro in at 13.

I have a good feeling about this. If our scrum can stay up and manage against the good Gloucester front 5, then I think we will do well and win by....6.

To be fair, that's not too tricky. Showing a full complement of fingers and toes should usually be enough.

Second half is going to be tricky as Glos have a lot more meat on the bench.
Sam is going to have to have a kicking good game, because their pace is going to get to him quick.
Shame about Attwood but Skirvs looks in good form and if we can get over the gain line up the middle then everything is open.
Glos are a good side, always dangerous, even when they play the kick and run game, looking forward to it.

Re: Team's Up vs. Gloucester - COME ON BOYS!!!
soapinthebath 17 February, 2012 13:53
Attwood's grunt is a loss, both in the tight and around the field, although Hooper's connection with Mears will be vital in the lineout. Both tight 5's are matched, but we are 10 fold better in the back row and Qera wants sevens esq rugby and not attritional stuff. With a weak back row their possession will only come from us giving it to them, therefore... Don't!! Which leads perfectly to Mr Vesty...

Echo comments about his game last week, he had an absolute stinker and needs to stop his daft up and unders. He needs to call Biggs/Woodburn closer and look to run it back instead of conceding possession for a net gain of 10 metres and allowing the oppo to build.

welcome back tins...

Re: Team's Up vs. Gloucester - COME ON BOYS!!!
johnnyf 17 February, 2012 14:10
They're going to get in behind us and Banahan and young Woodburn are going to be exposed defensively.
Burns kicking and their speed to get at our three-quarters will squash us back into our 22.
Unless...... we can dominate up front and keep moving their pack around to prevent their backs dominating.
We don't seem to play the "pressurise the opposition 10" game - that would be our best attacking option.

Re: Team's Up vs. Gloucester - COME ON BOYS!!!
cheekywatson 17 February, 2012 14:21
Vesty got really upset last match with the bath crowd, i wonder if he'll stay.

Re: Team's Up vs. Gloucester - COME ON BOYS!!!
joehousewife 17 February, 2012 14:27
Well Cheeky he needs to play better then! His kicking last week was amoungst the worst I've seen. You have to mix it up at 15, play in yr wingers, vary yr kicking game (whatever happened to the drilled grubber?) make a break, he needs to improve. On current form I wouldn't be at all fussed if he left.

I pretty sure that FLO will be captian. I saw him on Wednesday and he said that he was leading the team out with my daugher being the mascott!

Come on Bath and good luck to Molly on her big day.

I made that statement in an optimistic manner joe, as if to say if he doesn't improve i hope he retires.

It's going to be close.
Tight 5 look fairly close, I'd edge Bath on paper, but Glos for team work & bench.
Glaws' backrow looks shot, so I'd have to put Bath up there.
Halfbacks I'd take our SH but their FH (right now); so slightly in Glos favour all told.
Centres are much of a muchness, with Tins being@#$%&and old, and Banas being out of form, and out of position, Barkley out of form, so similar level to EFS.
Their back 3 will be simply too quick for ours, especially if Vesty continues as he left off against Newcastle.

so Bath's backrow vs Glos back 3.
