Not going too badly so far, some shockers but a well organised try for Biggsy!

Oh and Ryan has finally got his first card....

Proper derby stuff.
Not looking forward to the citings - I'd guess 4-5 each, with Catt most likely to sit out a fair few.

tins almost ruins it with his traditional lack of vision/passing, but Wood slides in in the corner.

5-5

Scrum penalty... luckily Burns misses.

Glaws look to have the bit between their teeth and look very dangerous.

Missed Glaws penalty from in front of posts following scrum infringement - that was very lucky

penalty Burns 8-5 to Glaws

Re: Match thread vs Glaws
BathHalfFull 18 February, 2012 15:07
Surely Wayne Barnes should not be reffing this? i was at uni with him where his nickname was Wurzel because he was a massive gloucester fan. I'm not saying he is making any awful decisions (yet) or will be bias on purpose but just pretty surprised is all.

Re: Match thread vs Glaws
strawhead 18 February, 2012 15:11
Disappointing miss for Olly B penalty still 8-5

Re: Match thread vs Glaws
strawhead 18 February, 2012 15:16
Another miss by Burns, Glaws still lead.

Re: Match thread vs Glaws
strawhead 18 February, 2012 15:18
Another penalty following a high tackle by Biggsy, Burns manages to get the penalty over 5 Bath 11 Glaws

Re: Match thread vs Glaws

Nothing in the tackle before HT, but there were a little afters

FFS Vesty has gifted them another lineout after booting it straight out... please hurry up Bendy!

Re: Match thread vs Glaws
strawhead 18 February, 2012 15:52
Nice line from Olly Woodburn, so close to the whitewash. However Barnes eventually awards penalty to Bath, Olly B slots it over in front of posts Bath 8 Glaws 11.

tempo seems to be increasing, Bath in the ascendancy !!! ever hopeful

Re: Match thread vs Glaws
strawhead 18 February, 2012 15:55
Another penalty this time from Tom Heathcote, 35 metres out.

Level scores 11-11

Re: Match thread vs Glaws

Vesty made some mistakes, but excellent in defence there...

Re: Match thread vs Glaws
strawhead 18 February, 2012 16:01
Another penalty despite good Bath pressure , Ryan MILLS penalty from 30 metres.

Bath 11 - Glaws 14

Re: Match thread vs Glaws
Which Tyler 18 February, 2012 16:04
Vesty's been ocvering so much ground at the back - he's out of puff now, time for a change.
Big risk at this stage with FB getting targetted so much, but gotta be worth it

Classsens has been shocking today. Too many mistakes from him equaled to many points for GLoucester. Hes good at times but to slow getting the ball out. Very frustrated

Re: Match thread vs Glaws
m0rris 18 February, 2012 16:23
I'll forgive some rubbish Vesty kicks for his excellent defence but at the end... the corner, why?

We know we're@#$%&at lineouts, especially with Dixie on the field. However, we don't take a risk and go for a tricky kick that could win the game instead we try and go for the win. Sensible sides march up the table because they take the best options on the table...

Glaws were better than us and deserved to win, and the performance was not too shabby but I'd still hope for better.

Re: Match thread vs Glaws
BathHalfFull 18 February, 2012 16:23
Can't fault the effort we just don't have the execution or even the skills. The better team clearly won today. In terms of positives, Biggs was decent, Woodburn continues to improve and it is great to have Mears back playing.

Re: Match thread vs Glaws
Which Tyler 18 February, 2012 16:25
morris - no kick could have won that game, go for the penalty and it would have been a draw at best. IMO was the right decision.

Claassens had too many box kicks charged down and kept getting scragged around the ruck. Wouldnt blame him for the defeat but really didnt help. And yet another b@llsed up line out...

we are just not good enough out muscled in the fwds.

I would have had Woodburn off at HT and moved Banahan to the wing and put Carraro in the centre.

This was a day for wise "old" rugby heads, we did not use our bench well

Re: Match thread vs Glaws
ziderman 18 February, 2012 16:40
Good honest endeavour from both sides and sadly Glos played the conditions better than us. Our 'big' failing is still not putting their receivers under pressure by kicking too long.

Seemed to me that the slightly better side won, unfortunately. Can't have too many complaints. Looked like two teams that were 8th and 9th.

Better side won, we were lucky not to get smashed. Claassens was bad today, not impressed. waste of my Saturday!

I have a friend who is a Glaws fan and he is a vicar.
Even he will rub my nose in this.

I didnt think we were that competative , cohesive or well drilled. I know its controversial but didnt we on average do a bit better than this a few years ago? Sorry to be a bore, but did the club not produce a DVD a couple of years ago bragging about a certain brand of offensive rugby?
Most of the players gave their all' but they need............ oh what do I know.,,,,, very little.
Sorry to be pessimistic.

A very good prospect for Gloucester. Plays at centre and fly half and currently an England U20. (Sm91)

What surprised me that we didn't lose that by a cricket score. Where is the leadership? If it ain't working shouldn't someone stand up and say hey guys we need to change the plan!

Diabolical from us and thank goodness Glos were marginally better than diabolical or we could have been in for a right royal drubbing!

Why didnt Carraro start and they benched Banners? Id have taken off Woodburn off at HT and brought Carraro on as well.
Bath badly missed Bendy, Atters, Donald and Wilson today had those 4 been playing Bath would have won IMO

Woodburn was one of the very few threats going forward. Agree Banners was anonymous today.

No it wasn't , hasn't been all season - we ditched a bright young innovator for an "ORH" and have reaped the benefits on the pitch ever since IMHO

Banners is not a centre and is inferior to Carrara in that position, so keep him out of midfield. Bench Banners until his form returns. In the meantime, Woodburn deserves to start, perhaps to be replaced by Banners with twenty to go.

Fantastic effort from the forwards today, only to be squandered by lack of composure at half back.

Claassens' service was so slow that the midfield were getting man and ball when he passed. His options seem to be three lateral steps and pass, by which time the opposition were through on our midfield, or kick the ball back to the opposition. Either way is unacceptable.

Bit harsh on a bloke who wasn't even in the 23.

However, I've lost count at the number of attacking lineouts we've conspired to foul up regardless of the chucker-iner.

Such a shame as Glaws seemed to be doing their best not to win, Qera losing control of the ball with the line beckoning. Thought Wood was a deserved MOM.

Apologies, I meant Batty. The point remains that we have only got one decent lineout thrower. We constantly lose lineout ball.

I know we could have won that one but were we to take a kick at goal we could have drawn it and maintained the gap with Glaws, now we've given them 4 points and we have 1 more.

Re: Match thread vs Glaws

We could of won that. We just gave up near the end, kicked the ball away to much. The players were tired but we could of won. And why we did we just except the penalty when the forwards were smashing away at their line. We would of scored eventually.

I thought that was one of the most uninspiring Bath v Glaws I've watched in a while .

Thought our kicking game was poor again and despite some good defence from Vesty sadly he offers very little in attack as fb.

Claassens had an absolute mare imo, took an age at the breakdown and contributed to the poor kicking game.

Better team won on the day, which wasn't hard as the poorer team offered very little.

Re: Match thread vs Glaws
Bathovalballer 18 February, 2012 18:46
I hate to repeat this but without any go forwrad in the front 5, our back row is caught in the melee and they gave Classens no proper protection and the ball was so slow.

Its not all Claasens fault it is partly the packs.

Catty was playing like a man possessed and did well, our lighter second row meant we struggled at scrum time and Taylor was not interested innthe rough stuff.

Louw was magnificent.

BoB there were several occasions when Claas clearly had the ball available and just stood staring at it - on one occasion I swear for a full 15 seconds before having his box kick charged down
