United v Worcester
Bri 20 February, 2012 07:19
This weekend i have watched Bath v Gloucester and Pirates v Bristol live and both have been close encounters,i am not expecting the same tonight.
Worcester will have a first tean/second team out against our kids tonight.
Worcester first team players to watch out for tonight.
Adam Balding,Neil Best,Kai Horstmann
,Chris Fortey and many more.Add to this Ollie Hayes and James Currie both our ex academy boys,I expect a long night for our boys.
Are we likely to see any of our first teamers coming back from injury?Moody,Fearns,Eastmond,or Ovens,Scott, kpn,Lilley,Beatie,Belly,Cuthbert and Cook who never played this weekend or players that only played a few mins on Saturday,Beech,Mercer.

While I appreciate the club not charging for these games, unlike all other clubs, please start to make it a combative game not a mismatch.
Worcester prepared for this game by playing a friendly last week against a strong Sale side.
Predict 7-50 loss depending on when Worcester use their academy boys
Winning breeds winners.

It is not the best preparation for being thrown into a First XV to be playing for a United team that gets a drubbing every outing. Winning is a habit.
The malaise seems to go right down to the youth side. I know a lad who had recently joined them and so far has found them a disorganised shambles.

Re: United v Worcester
Bri 20 February, 2012 09:01
Bath haven't got a youth side.

Take Scott from list above as I just found out he played for London Welsh at the weekend and after nervous start, improved as the game went on and had a partin the welsh 4th try.
Moss could also play tonight as not sure if he played at Tje weekend,we really could put out strong second team,I shall wait and see if we do.The pull of watching tonight will be hard for me not to go but I am considering not going and that doesn't happen very often.

It seems to be successive Bath game-side mgt philosophy recently.

Some Clubs want to win anything and everything, whilst we ..................................... don't seem bothered.

Re: United v Worcester
Bri 20 February, 2012 09:55
Does Chris Lilley still coach united,it was interesting to notice in the program notes a few weeks back Mercer saying he would have him as his captain.Haven't seen him at the games lately?

Not sure, but don't think so. Isn't it JP and DG?

As just found you mean, after these posts, plus many teams play their replacements on a Monday night.just give them game time and if we are down to the bear bones why are we playing a friendly?

As said before winning is a habit and we NEED to win some games, ANY games and this is an opportunity to do just that!

For crying out loud Bath Rugby put out a team of fringe first teamers who had no or hardly anygame time on saturday, returning to fitness guys and SOME acadamy lads. Instill them with the knowledge that their futures rely on WINNINg the game by any methods required and lets really give it a go and play with passion, commitment and hopefully some skill.

Worcester know the ebenfit of such requirements as instilled by Richard Hill who probably would give his right arm for what we have in playing talent (on paper) and facilities and funds enjoyed by us.

No team announced on either site, maybe we haven't enough fit bodies.

Re: United v Worcester
Bathovalballer 20 February, 2012 12:37
We need to play and win but obviously not with a side of youngsters. How do other clubs manage to keep their players fit so much better than us? What is going wrong with the training and conditioning of our players?

Re: United v Worcester
Bri 20 February, 2012 13:16
Oh my,I hope Worcester bring a Academy side tonight as the team on the Offy that's been announced will get trounced, all as I hope they wear the shirt with pride, good luck boys,I fear you may need it.

Tosh Masson - rings a bell. Ex Harlequins and at least he should provide some experience and double the average age!!

Re: United v Worcester

I recognise nearly all of those names in the Bath team. Over half have been around the Bath set-up for a couple of years now. Not much 1st team experience and no winning vibe with United this year, but I'm not going to write them off. If we can maintain some posession, which has been a real problem this year in United (and in the 1sts!!), we can and should win at home. Come on you Bath!

Re: United v Worcester
m0rris 20 February, 2012 13:55
The problem is thought that I recognise the names of roguhly half the Bath line-up because they're my team and I recognise the names of many of the academy boys but I also recognise half the Woos squad... because they play regularly in the Prem. If they don't beast us I'll be very suprised.

Ha hah hahaha aha, what planet are you on.I will glady donate 50quid to your charity of choice if we win,no sorry if we are close.
We will get smashed in the scrum, and walked around in the backs.it's going to be one way traffic all game.

Re: United v Worcester
Bathovalballer 20 February, 2012 14:00
Sorry guys this is going to be a humiliation if Worcester play that side for 60 minutes. The front row alone is very strong asis the bacxk row.....

Lambs to the slaughter! Why do we put out such weak sides when our players so desparatley need match practice and a chance to test and improve their skills under playing conditions?

Re: United v Worcester
Bri 20 February, 2012 14:02
Let's have a little fun,I'll say they will score a try within 5 mins.

Re: United v Worcester
bathstigg 20 February, 2012 14:05
JJ Kilmartin is good and played in the 7s last July. A lot of people rate Gabbitas who is on the bench. Joe Buckle is a developing talent. Nice to see Kane train as captain but I feel we have a youth squad out there while Wuss have selected an experienced 2nd xv.

Re: United v Worcester
Bri 20 February, 2012 14:08
Our oldest starting player is just 21 in the pack,if the boys can hold them for five minutes I will be pleased.

Re: United v Worcester
Bathovalballer 20 February, 2012 14:11
That is more than a 'second xv' eg Horstman was captain for part of last season and has been injured for much of this. Ceri Jones was first choice loose head at Quins before Marler and Arr is a regular first team player as is Carlisle.

It will be a procession...... and the Train is going to have his work cut out to just stand up let alone go forward in the tight.

Best of luck United.

Re: United v Worcester
Bri 20 February, 2012 14:28
Just noticed the Train is captain, well done.Ceri Jones is a welsh international.

To be clear, when I say "we can and should win at home", I'm talking aspirationally. I'm also making the point that these guys have played together before. The scoreline predictions are probably not too far off from a statistical likelyhood, but I'm not a betting man, so you can do what you wish with your £50 Brian. It's very likely we'll lose - for the reason's you very knowledgebly put forward.

If we are to stand a chance of staying in the game, we need to avoid giving them too much ball from set pieces. I genuinely believe that we have some talented young players in that squad and I'm genuinely not too enthused by the players in the Warriors team.

Because it's Monday, I'm in a good mood and I'm a natural contrarian I'll stick my neck on the line and say we'll keep the score within 20! (Sm25)

Re: United v Worcester
Bri 20 February, 2012 14:38
I take it you mean by twenty in the first half hour,we will only get in their half only from the restarts.
Retain ball haha how.have you seen their back row, their front row would give Perenise and Catt a work over.same for the back row. Their backs against the Uni/academy,need I go on.I wasn't going to go but I shall just to clap them off.

Re: United v Worcester
bathball2 20 February, 2012 17:38
No prediction
Just a belief that our lads will stand up and be proud
This is an academy and university team versus a prem and 2 nd team, in a development friendly - hard to believe

Re: United v Worcester
Dougie15 20 February, 2012 17:54
Looked up the team when I got home from work and quickly decided I can't be bothered to go.
Even the Thatchers at £2.50 a pint won't change my mind.

Re: United v Worcester
annie blackthorn 20 February, 2012 18:14
Being brutal - can one assume that SIM et al are not prepared to risk any of their available players in case they get injured?

Re: United v Worcester
Bri 20 February, 2012 18:21
Appears so,the game should have been called off,it's only a friendly, until we could put out a side that would at least give them a game.I have never minded losing as long as you give your all and that's all we can ask of them.Still cant make up my mind to go or not.

Re: United v Worcester
annie blackthorn 20 February, 2012 18:23
I don't think Worcester regard it as 'just a friendly' with that line up!

Time for JP and FB to stand up and be heard at FH, IMHO.

Typical Bath play so far...

Make a half break, slow ball at the next breakdown, a horrible pass behind the first receiver, regather the ball, get turned over on the floor with ease, concede a penalty. From their 22 to ours.

They screw up the lineout, we gather the ball, one phase later, concede a penalty for holding on, under our own posts.
