Banners Dropped for Quins

If Tom Bradshaw is correct and indeed Banners has been dropped for Saturday's game at Quins, I for one think that is the right call at the moment. Banners has lost form over the last few months which he has admitted himself, and not only that I think his best position is on the wing and not in the centre!!

I also think that OB1 is out of form at present and needs to be either given a rest or dropped!! (They both mean the same thing).

Any Thoughts?

I've been advocating dropping Banahan for weeks - this is too little too late in my opinion. His head has been totally elsewhere - you only have to watch clips of him playing 1 or 2 seasons ago to see how much form he has lost.

And yes Barkley is also far from peak form - not anywhere near to being back (from yet another) serious injury.

Agree totally Johnnyf,he just can't run through players like he use to,he's got to slow.let hope he can turn it around.

If we can see it quite clearly, what about the coaches? Playing/being picked on reputation I think at the moment.

Brian did you see him writing the other week that he reached his highest recorded top speed during a game.

I agree he hasnt had the same impact as he was having last season but i'd at very least have him on the bench for a 20min blitz.

Sam do you really believe being given a weeks rest and being dropped are the same thing?!

I'd have thought that the coaches were aware before we were; but felt they had little choice, given how many injuries we've had, and been selecting match squads of 23 player from 20-25 fit players.
Could have brought Vesty into the centres, with Cuthbert at FB, which would still have kept Banas on the bench; which isn't what he's needed IMO.

Of course, it could also be simply man-management, arm around shoulder and a little faith haven't helped so far, so time for tough love.

I'm sure they're also aware that Olly is in poor nick at the moment; and equally unable to do much about it. With Hipkiss and Williams back now, and Kyle soon to be, they get a chance to address this soon - too late of course, but c'est la vie.

Well if he reach his highest speed in a match must of missed it but I agree I would have him on the bench,in fact I would have him playing in this match bevause he would be up against Hopper or Lowe neither who are the biggest or great tacklers.Should have dropped him before now and he might of come good for this important run in.

Maybe put that in the wrong way DA, what I am trying to say is that OB1 in my opinion has lost form and needs no game time maybe for a couple of weeks or more. The reason I say that is because coming back from the horrific injury he had has taken its toll more mentally than anything else and I think his loss of form for one so talented is temporary and is down to his mental attitude/tirdness, if that makes sense?

I take it you mean little choice because we have no specialist wingers apart from Biggs? Thankfully an academy player in Woodburn has stepped up and we now have 2 to pick from + mess around with Carraro and Banahan.

It would be seen as a capitulation of the season by some if Banners were dropped.

I for one agree with Bod in accepting that the season is a write off for a playoff or HC place now so why not play some development rugyb with some different players?

Agree OB is out of form and agree it is for good reasons. Banahan has been playing without a significant break for a long time now...

Rest them but tell them why...

Barkley's been playing pretty much constantly since recovering from a broken leg. Irrelevant of form he needs a week off soon.

I know it doesn't compare to digging a trench for the water board but being around the environment wihtout a real break can take its toll. Training, lectures, training, fishing Manu out of Auckland Harbour.....takes a toll on a man...

and how many men actually enjoy a honeymoon?

give him a break we have good cover.

For goodness sake, how do we know why he has been left out?
I'd like to think its to give him a chance to see how it feels and help to regain his enthusiasm.

Not quite sure why they feel the need to drop him from the match day squad instead of just benching him. Seems somewhat punitive.

It does rather show how little competition for places in the matchday 23 we really have, that one good player being left out is such a big deal.

Is bendy fit then? Leaving Vesty and Cuthbert on the bench? Still no place for Williams and Hipkiss?

Bendy is fit. Cuthbert will be on the bench, along with Hipkiss I believe.

Good stuff, Bendy is so crucial to our attack. I'll be pleased if we don't feel the need to have a second fly-half on the bench when Barkley or Vesty are playing at 12. Much better to have some fresh legs out wide with the way we look to play in the last 20mins. As illustrated by the impact Cuthbert has had off the bench recently.

I regret to say but agree that Banners has to be dropped as he has shown by his woeful lack of interest, non tackling, being out of position so often, very poor passing and seemimg lack of effort that he is in 'need' of a rest and to get his head back in gear!

It is a crying shame someone of his undoubted abilities and strength to really rattle defences with his size and weight and speed to score tries, is not motivated shows something is seriously wrong. He may be carrying a knock to be fair but it does not appear to be very serious and no worse than any other player this time of year. Mainly the 'MOTVATION' comes from within but IMHO I believe he has been getting mixed messages from both National and Club coaches about his best position. He was never the best winger in town becasue he lacks the footwork of someone likes Biggsy and is slow like all big men to turn! Certainly he does not have the passing, tackling or kicking game of a top centre and to play him there is IMO a waste of a unique talent!

But he can be so very destructive if he takes and gets the ball at full tilt and I wish he bothered to chase kick offs because he would be like a wrecking ball if he chased like Biggsy! In fact Biggsy has really shown what a real winger should be doing and possibly has not helped Banners cause.

I hope this 'rest' will re-kindle the fire he had in his belly and he stays on the wing where he draws defences and goes looking for the ball and work much more. We need a fully firing Banners and it is sad when he is off form and so out of sorts!!!!

I hope he comes back soon fully restored and hungry for the fray as Bath need him- and soon.

The second half of the last game he was hobbling with a definite limp, so it may be more than his mindset.

I was told,is best position was wing but to go on tour or get to play for England he had to offer more.ie full back/ winger or centre/ winger in his instance, that told me that they didn't think of him good enough as a winger but might be worth having as a jack of all trades, while I would prefer a master of one.
I feel sorry for him,he's a class winger and I would rather he was in my team than another. He should be England's George North or better.I am sure their aren't any Premiership wingers that like facing him.
Time for him IMO to get back to basics and come back from this slight blip the fantastic player we all know he is.

Lets hope the rest and break replenishes his desire to play like he used to - on the wing- for the BB & W!
