I have really been thinking that soccer bring there own coaching teams in to get balance and understanding surely we should be looking at this in rugby. We are new to the pro game. Meehan bakewell did not get on did our coaches last year get on at bath? we need stability and build to the future with players and coaches. There is no quick fix like it or lump it. WE have made a lot of mistakes loosing key players in there prime like brothwick Stevens Tyndall balshaw Hudson Barclay crompton Reagan delve and players like Goode Haydn Thomas etc etc and young good lads developing in other clubs. The team that jack built was around for years with each other they built a culture within. Let's really try to support the guys that we get in have patience and hope. Pro rugby is tough on the field and off it to.

However, your point about the new head coach having cart blanche is important. The fact that Brad is staying and Catty is allegedly coming is, I hope, smoke signals from the incoming coach rather than Brucie impositions on a head's contract. The latter is a recipe for more chaos and a sign of no lessons learned. Let us pray!

Well Brad is still under contract, unlike Haagy, so I wouldn't read anything into that.

Gold has certainly galvanised Newcastle since he took over on 12 January, 2 Home wins and a home draw (Harlequins). 2 away defeats and one away win, their first in 14 months. If that for had been replicated over the season they would be on equal points with Northampton.

Thanks for that Bod, there goes Pocock!!!

"A coaching panel of Nick Stiles, Phil Blake and Andrew Scotney take the reins, with additional resources and input being provided by Captain David Pocock and club legend Nathan Sharpe for the final eight games of the season.

"The board has determined that a change to the coaching structure is for the betterment of the Western Force with still half a season to play in 2012," CEO Vern Reid said.

"The decision has come about after a carefully considered and consultative approach.

"The board put in place a clear process to determine the appropriate course of action and met regularly to receive feedback from key stakeholders.

"Richard has given a lot of himself to the Western Force and rugby in WA and for that we are grateful."

The Force have commenced their search for a new coach with over 30 applicants expressing interest in the job."

Smee I wonder? He's go down well in WA.

Surely it'd be easy for Catty to say he wasn't coming. To remain tight lipped suggests there's something to the story, IMHO.

From TVNZ:-

There ahs been a lot of speculation about Smith joining England after he surprisingly hinted at a desire to return to the international arena, particularly for a challenge like England, after helping the All Blacks win the World Cup where he was one of Graham Henry's assistants.

The decision by Andy Farrell, Lancaster's right hand man in the recent Six Nations, to concentrate on his Saracen's club coaching position in England, has opened the door to Smith making the move north.

He won't do it until after this year's Super Rugby championship at the earliest.

He has a two-year deal with the Chiefs where he is helping Dave Rennie but he has an escape clause that could see him exit after this season.

England have a looming three-Test tour of South Africa. Smith won't be able to make that. It is believed that former England back Mike Catt is being considered for a caretaker role for that trip.

Would be great to have Smith with the English players. Surprised with Catty being linked with a caretakers role. Perhaps gives more credence to the rumour that he was going to do a Haskell and learn from other leagues.

Nick Mallett is reported in Australia as having applied for the vacant Force coaching role.

If that's true, and if Bath have already recruited their man, then it's clearly not Mallett.

I think you are all sentimental old so and so's.
Catt has few if any coaching qualifications and very little experience. If he's so good why are Irish letting him go?

P.S. This is not personal btw - his reported idea to go and take a year out learning how to coach professionally sounds a much sounder longterm strategy.
