Not til after S15s finish

It could all become quite exciting if the young backs have the culture and intelligence.
thumbs down

I bet English fans are hoping the RFU havent offered him the same 60k a year as they offered Farrell..

Rampant - 60k was the sum the RFU were willing to give Sarries in compensation for him leaving his contract early - it has nothing whatsoever to do with the salary they were offering him. Very sensible sum, IMO. Why should they give Sarries a windfall of 250k? It's a trendy thing to beat the RFU with every available stick, but if they end up getting Smith, then that will be a genuinely exciting coaching team, with an added dose of been-there-done-that, hard-nosed experience.

Smith excels at getting players to perform to the height of their aspirations - and doesn't suffer fools. Seen what he's done with the Chiefs in just 6 months? (Please note all you 3 year project "merchants"! And BC2!)

Out of interest Bod, why do you credit Smith rather than the head coach or the other two assistant coaches?

Fuller information for you Stu! Both coaches are new arrivals this season.

"Rennie, assisted by Wayne Smith, has immediately changed the Chiefs' DNA and provided further evidence that those who hide behind the need for long-term strategies are often excuse makers."

Just a thought!

Is this the same South African newspaper which confidently told us Mallett was going to be England coach?

Wayne Smith would be an excellent coach anywhere - a rare coaching talent that would earn the respect of any player.
But can't see him joining England - too many personal obstacles to overcome.

The RFU coaching setup is designed to improve standards in the lower levels of rugby, not to produce a coach for the England team.

Your broadsides are hopelessly off target today Bod.

You are wrong.
What you imply is that you feel this should not be the objective since so far the Coaching product delivered is consistently uncompetitive at the Top end of the Rugby scale these days.
Isn't it!

Maybe the major fault is that the RFU don't insist/encourage the better coaches to move overseas to finishing school in the SANZAR countries like their best coaches tend to do.
I can't think of a single NH coach who has been involved with any Super Franchise Club over the years - can you?

Don't follow S15 closely enough to know. Was interested that Alex King was doing a spell in France though.

I agree that time abroad would be good, although not sure of the legalities of a Brit working in Aus or NZ?

Also, is that a coaching policy of the SANZAR unions, or just that their junior coaches can come over here and double their salaries?

Staying in NZ for personal reasons

So, who do the Blazers (Squeaky and crew) aim for now? Return to Saffies with a bigger wedge? Make do with Catt?
Is the money on offer so poor or is there another reason why this seems to be dragging out as another RFU farce?

"Is the money on offer so poor or is there another reason"

Bod - you know bl00dy well that the reason Smith has turned it down is because of the pressure put on him by the NZRFU. Once again NZ are happy to be global when it's their players/coaches who benefit, and parochial when it suits them.

SL should know these things DW.
He should have a vision of how England should perform, and who might facilitate this objective.
The RFU have missed out on his first 2 choices.
It'll be interesting to see who he choses in third place.

I suspect SA will be more worried about the unknown quantity of England right at the moment. No guarantee that Lancaster can kick on, no guarantee that Catt can cut it - but I can't think of a Test series that i've been looking forward to so much for a long time.

Mind you - Croft and Lawes are on the already-growing list of absentees.
