In answer to Gareth's query - it's usually expected to successfully come from the top downwards, scattering feel good factor on its way!?

Nope. Effective leadership has to be exercised at ALL levels of an organisation. It's not a chocolate fountain!

Trouble is Gareth, I guess we expect the squad to have enough to exercise between the ears to solve a few problems, so, they either don't or can't be bothered.

Gareth is right: Effective leadership has to be exercised at ALL levels of an organisation.

However, that leadership is exercised within a culture, which can be developed from bottom up or top down. The most effective of which, as I believe Gareth would agree, are inspired and developed from top down.

Thank you PG. As you have said, leadership is a cultural thing which 'cascades' often subliminally (yuk)from the top down. It can be learned, but often seems to be genetic.
