Raeburn Place - another historic rugby ground in need of development

Stumbled across this earlier and thought I'd share. Has some similarities to Bath (without the CC of course) LINKY

Quote:
Raeburn Place is a sports ground with major historical importance but which now requires to be developed sensitively in order to survive. The aim in redeveloping the ground is to provide a first class sports ground and facilities befitting a club which has so much history and which in turn will allow the club to play (and allow spectators to watch) top flight sport.

Is that the one in Stockbridge in Edinburgh? Would be interesting to see what they do with that as it is quite a "naice" area and likely to have its own interested parties (one man's interested party is another man's NIMBY).

Thats the one Susanne. A nice little ground but was well past its best when I was last there in the 90s.

I think the idea of going down a more modern route rather than try to fit in with the Georgian architecture.

The more modern route might work there but I couldn't see it working in the middle of Bath - equivalent to putting a modern construction in the middle of Charlotte Square!

We are up in that part of Edinburgh next month so I might wander along and have a look - it's on the way to Waitrose. And just to show how refined that area has become - when Safeway was taken over by Morrisons the building became Waitrose!

Took the midi's there a few years back. Changed in a converted container on side of pitch. Played against a composite side from the 3 local schools.
Isn't it also the Scotland national sides cricket pitch? Certainly needs a lot of work.
That Waitrose provided sandwiches for my lunch for several years (as did the Morrisons, and Safeways beforehand).

I'd hope for a bold modern design for the Rec - think Holbourne Museum - rather than poor mock Georgian that seems to dominate thinking in Bath

If we could afford it something by Gehy would make a statement of intent!
