Local radio reports that Gareth L was banned for 3 matches after pleading guilty to striking David B.
Perhaps the supporters who put the video up will be keeping their heads down !

personally , i think .
If an incident results in a player being unavailable due to injury then the ban should be consistent with that so in this case he should not be allowed to set foot on a rugby pitch until Barnesy is fit to come back

RFU:

Disciplinary Advisory

Gareth Llewellyn of Bristol RFC was tonight (Monday) suspended for three weeks after pleading guilty to striking.

The Bristol player was cited for striking Bath prop David Barnes during the Guinness Premiership match at Ashton Gate on March 2nd.

He is suspended from March 6th until March 27th and is free to play again on March 28th.

The Rugby Football Union disciplinary panel, who considered the case at the London Bloomsbury Holiday Inn, comprised of His Honour Jeff Blackett (Chairman), Jeremy Summers and Peter Budge.

A RFU Disciplinary hearing at the Leeds Brighouse Holiday Inn also tonight suspended Adam Kettle of Plymouth Albion for one match after collecting three yellow cards for foul play. Having been suspended for one week by his club, he can resume playing on Saturday, March 15, 2008.

Ends…

He gets three weeks and Barnesy is out for at least a month-the guilty party treated better than the victim.

I dont think it was posted for that purpose, if you listen to the gloating commentry and comments of "lets see that again", I would suggest it was posted for all the wrong reasons - ie promotion of violence.

Frankly I think it is very ironic that the Bristol "supporter" who posted it ultimately got his own played banned.

Nice own goal mate !!

Seeing as Barnes played again in the second half then Llew should only get a 40 minute ban? (Sm105)

As for being a victim in the video you can see Barnes swing first, it's just that Llew swung a bit better (or worse?) - the ban is about right in my opinion, any longer would have been unfair.

I,m not sure why Llewelyn gets a 3 week ban for effectively ABH, and Brent Cobain gets 5 weeks for use of the boot without actually causing an injury that keeps a player off the field(iiRC).

By the way Rinkadink, absolute rubbish about Barnsey swinging first, dont know what your watching. Counter rucking yes. No mention of this in the proceedings from the hearing either.
Dont try and be a clever t**t about Barnsey coming on in second half..your just making yourself look more ridiculous.
LLewelyn came clean..... cant you?

Rinkadink,

Barnes is one of the cleanest players in the league with a pretty exemplary disciplinary record (which is no doubt one of the reasons why he's President of the players union).

Watch the video, at around 13 seconds Barnes swings with his right.

Doesn't matter, the question to Llew was "did you punch him?" and the answer is yes - there are no mitigating circumstances when it comes to citings such as this.

Sorry, wouldn't want the facts to spoil a good story now would we? (Sm16)(Sm7)

Wineman of that I have little doubt, but sometimes players do lose their rag - Llew isn't the dirtiest of players either. It would be a shame if that was his last game though...

Might not punch him in the eye, but he may face some tough rucking and counter rucking.

Yes its rather amusing looking at all thses Barf supporters playing holier than thou, with some of the bruisers they have in their team.
No idea who the person was who took the pictures although he must have been sat somewhere pretty near me. Actually it took me several attempts of looking at the film before I saw what happened so it wasn't that glaring.
I suspect it may not have been a Bristol supporter who took the film but someone who went along for the ride.

Re: You Tube Justice

Forwards are, by definition "bruisers" but, despite what you erroneously perceive, the current Bath pack rarely misunderstands the difference between aggression and assault. Steve Meehan made it publicly very clear that if that had been a Bath player he would be facing internal disciplinary action notwithstanding any subsequent RFU review. Did I miss Richer Dill's similarly grown up response?

English your second language perchance?? The past is the past and Lordy, Lordy of all cities Bristol should endorse that!! We are talking about the other week, not 1998. Can you not see that? This is not some effing interminable Scottish tribal d!ckfest. It's about what is acceptable "right here, right now" in modern professional rugby. Your argument is at best fatuously lazy and probably just stupid. Your stupidity far outweighs the "hypocricy" we came to terms with, and suffered MASSIVELY from, in 1995 but you still wear entire potato farms on your shoulders about. In 1995 there were fewer 16 year olds in Bristol who couldn't read/write than there are now. Compare/contrast is not as easy an exercise as you glibly contend!

Nope. Your argument is intellectually empty and doesn't even begin to address my points about the the issue concerning the last few weeks not the previous hundred years. Tip: sack your LEA! You act like a person with lots of personal grievances to pursue rather than one with a coherent view of life. Get over it FFS
