The measure may be thought bold, but I am of the opinion the boldest are the safest.

Maybe not phew from me, but I really wouldn't have followed the rational behind it had he signed for us.

Leicester have a canny knack of shipping their 'stars' off just as the 'best before' date comes up (we seemed to have ended up with a few). I wonder if this is another example - at least we won't be the ones finding out this time though I'd be surprised that a shrewd character like Rob Baxter appears to be hasn't agreed without a lot of thought

True but recently there's also been plenty jumping ship before their time's up. Flood, Ford, 36, Goneva and now TTTE.

Yet they've kept hold of that donkey Crane.

uh maybe I'm missing something but why sign TTE when they have Ewers?

Seems an odd place to spend some big dosh

Someone like Waldron as a squad-strengthening exercise seems pretty sound judgement to me. The one that colours everyone's judgement round here is Moody - because, at the time, he was paraded as some kind of marquee signing. If he'd come here Stringer-style, that might have been ok?

Ewers has re-signed.

Don't think that's been announced unless I've missed it. its widely speculated and thought that he will, but it's not nailed on until Baxter's said hes signed on.

Hopefully we've come in really late and we'll get him!

I was at Exeter last week with a friend who said to Dave Ewers that it was appreciated he had chosen to stay with the Chiefs and he just smiled! Think it is nailed on certainty he will stay at Exeter. Think Ewers might be featuring in representative games and Waldron is seen as a similar ball carrying replacement. However Exe do have Kai Horstman, another specialist 8, as well. Wonder if he is moving on!

I Think I just don't want to believe that hes signed an extension. He's top class and young, where as our 8's, although pretty decent aren't at the same level and wont develop as much as Ewers! Very good for Exeter though to keep him!

I'm not sure there is that much in game impact between Leroy now and Ewers

the differences are that ewers fits the Ford spec more closely being English qualified, young and with a lot of potential to develop individually as well as with a similar age group of players

if ewers is not available there will be others and I respect his club loyalty

Speculation, but Leroy may be England qualified.

He must have some kind of EU passport or other European link or he wouldn't be able to be here at all (or have played in France). If that's an English grandparent....

He toured with Australia, but didn't play for the senior team. He played one game for Australia A, but that was against the French Barbarians not France A. My understanding of the rules is that A games don't count as being "second tier" unless the opposition is also second tier (hence all the Wales/Scotland nonsense).

As I say, just speculation...

You may well speculate Stuart however by the letter of the law you are right. Interesting conundrum, Houston potentially EQP?
Scottish/Maori heritage I believe.

Googling a bit, his father is Scotty Houston, so probably scotland qualified.
