Re: 2017/18 Squad almost complete?

I understand that wiki isn't categorically correct however this page has kept me in the know pretty well for a few years now. They have stated those who have contracts into next year as well as incomings and outgoing for all super rugby franchises.

[en.wikipedia.org] - Super rugby Transfers

Just yesterday morning watching the Crusaders vs 'cannes I was looking at David Havili - who was class - as a possible recruit however he's contacted to the Crusaders. Realistic possible centres (Anton Lienert-Brown is up but there is no chance he'll leave the All Blacks) are Crotty (worked with TB and TM for many years so is possible), Fekitoa who's looking at europe to help improve the financial situation of his family (13 siblings - or something like that), Seta Tamanivalu, Rob Thompson, Ngani Laumape, Francois Venter, Damian de Allende and Juan de Jongh. I understand that probably 75% of these will be all but signed and sealed to franchises however there are real tangible links to some. De Jongh was rumoured to replace Beale however Dai Young has said that they aren't looking at another big signing. Crotty if overlooked by the All Blacks has links to our coaches and Feketoa is almost certain to be coming to europe although Toulon are probably favourites to get him.

Another lad playing on the Wing for the Cheetahs - Sergeal Petersen- is an absolute flyer and will only be 23 come next season would seriously strengthen our depth in the Back 3 especially if Banahan is playing the the centres a lot. With this guy however I'm not sure how close he is to national recognition and is apparently being courted by the Stormers.

Anyone take an intrest in Super Rugby? Are there any potential signings for us from rebels/force/kings/any other team they might be dumping?

I'd take Reece Hodge the Aussie from the Rebels but I feel it won't be in keeping with his national team ambitions.

Rangy, quick and can play 12, 13 and even 15. Plus he has a 55/60m kicking tee range which is mightily impressive.

We need some Malco rumours. They may not always come to fruition but they are better than just discussing players we would like to sign. 😡

Perhaps we won't sign anyone else for next season?

Well 'ruck' was still saying yesterday that Finn Russell is still considering a 'big money offer' from us? Surely this must be incorrect?

Unless Rhys is unexpectedly off or there's a chance Burns doesn't go through, neither of which seem likely, I can't see it being a good call for us.

Do you reckon Chiefs may be looking to get rid of one scrum half? They have four of genuine premiership quality on their books...

Aaron Smith (28) if TJ Perenara (25) goes above him. Otherwise vice versa.

Can only dream.

I think Matawalu got deported back to Fiji, problem with his visa and also wasn't there a sexual assault allegation made against him?

Well if we want someone who can throw an outrageous pass, check out Dillyn Leyds backhanded offload for Stormers last month - ridiculous.

Still listed on the Exeter site.

With Nic White's arrival at the Chiefs, Chudley and Maunder also competing for starts, Exeter are blessed with talented guys at scrum half and they have another guy emerging from their Academy as well.

I have a sneaking feeling Chiefs will dispense with Chudley as he is nearly 30 and Townsend (21) will be placed with a Championship side like Cornish Pirates where he has already spent sometime. Townsend is brave and quick with a good pass and running game. He cannot let his career stand still and will IMO be looking to move on if Chudley does not go. Certainly he has talent and with regular game time could become very good indeed.

As for Matawalu, he could easily be released, especially as he hasn't played yet because of his lack of suitable visa and his pending Court case. If found guilty, I can see the Chiefs cancelling his contract.

Wouldn't mind seeing us get a 'jumpy' lock. Ewels is great for that but he's young. You would think Charteris would be awesome but he isn't quite. He's also injured so often it's untrue.
In Atwood, Stooke and Garvey (i know he plays 6 too..) we have 3 heavy and strong locks. Would be nice to have a good line out specialist who can get around the park as an option to Ewels.
Squad's got more pressing needs, obviously but if the right player was available...

I probably don't know what i'm talking about.

Just read that Todd said in an interview for BBC Bristol, we can expect 5-6 signings over the summer, 2 first team players and the others who will increase our strength in depth.

Sounds awesome - hoping that we can keep Grant etc as well or else the extras will just be replacements for those that we have lost.

Let's the speculation begin!

If it's only 2 first team players it will hopefully be a centre & a tight head but I would like another scrum half.

Not sure 2 first team players will be enough to get us challenging the top 3.

With Fruean going, who they clearly rated and wanted to keep with an upped offer, I can see a 12 being 1 of the 2 for sure. We can hope for a grizzly 3 as well...

I don't think they'll sign a 9 this time around, reckon they'll make do with the 4 we have for next season, maybe look for one the season after. If we signed a 5th, that would make Homer 4th choice, 3rd at best, and we risk losing him to another club I fear. Although not a perfect group of 9s, if we're only signing 2 players we have other more pressing needs I feel...

Add those two to the people like Henry Thomas and Jack Walker who will be like new signings, ones that we have already signed like Underhill and I think that our first team is definitely good enough for top 3.

The question for me (again) is the squad depth - we have already spoken about what would happen if, God forbid, Kahn got a long injury. Add that to some bruising European Cup games and I think that we could be scraping the barrel again which is why potentially 6 more squad members would be handy / needed.

I suspect that the two serious signings will be a replacement for Fruean and a prop TH or LH depending on where Lahif is going to play.

Hopefully it will also include another prop, a lock, another midfield back and perhaps a FB.
