Sale sign Faf de Klerk
08 May, 2017 12:16
Sale announced as signing Faf de Klerk. A replacement for the retiring Mike Philips and Stringer who is out of contract.

A great signing for them but can't help but think we should have been looking at someone of his calibre as Kahn is no spring chicken and Cook never looked like a long term viable first choice 9?

Opinions?

The rumour was that he was being paid £4-500k a year which is a lot of money for a second choice SH untested in the prem.

Another sign that just staying where we are now will be more challenging next season

If we want to start competing seriously for top 3 then a big step up required in performances across the park

Oh geez that's a lot of £££!

Maybe it is time instead then to develop Will Homer and let him get some decent game time as Darren Allinson nor Cook particularly fill me with confidence as 2nd choice if Kahn were to be injured for more than 1 week!

Did I read Alby Mathewson is leaving Bristol? He's no spring chicken but I'd imagine he has a good few years left in him yet. We could do worse!! (Sm7)

I just hope we don't have to wait too long before we plug our gaps - scrum-half, tight-head & centre.

I'm actually surprised that the offy hasn't detailed those who are leaving / being released yet.

Can we save each other some time?

The season finished 48 hours ago.

There are going to be lots of players signed by lots of clubs in the coming weeks.

We can't sign all of them. Nor should we.

So shall we not do the whole - "X has signed Y...isn't Bath's recruitment policy useless?"

Let's wait to do that in September.

But on this one... An expensive, first choice South African scrum-half who'll be away for the months of September, October and November would've been the most pointless spend of £400k a season. So I'm delighted we haven't signed him.

Don't worry Dr Bath I'm not saying that we should have signed him...but Jason Woodward is quite a coup for Glos:

I didn't hear that one coming - thought he was off to Quins or elsewhere.

Whilst we have successfully signed Underhill & Burns who are no slouches we still have several glaring weaknesses & rival clubs are strengthening by the day though the Club seem to consider top 4 is where we should be by right. With the increased salary cap & several clubs improving their spending capability this achievement will get much harder.
