As Gloucester have drawn Pau in this coming season's Euro fixtures has anyone got any tips or recommendations from your visit there last year?

We flew from Bristol to Toulouse for something like £75 return..... hired a minibus and drove just under 2 hours to Pau, dumped it at the Train Station and forgot about it for weekend. Really simple journey from Toulouse to Pau and back.

We stayed at the Hotel Le Bourbon Pau Centre. Basic and cheap but excellent location on the main square. We spent 3 nights in Pau and then the last one in Toulouse prior to flying back.

All I would say is don't leave it until the last minute to get to the stadium. There appears to be a distinct lack of taxis on match days and the buses aren't the best. It is 15 minute drive from the centre of Pau, and about 40 minute walk. Leave yourself plenty of time, get there early and enjoy the atmosphere. We booked a taxi for an hour before kick off and still missed the first 5 minutes!

We drove there returning from a car rally to the south of Spain, so can't help with flights and transfers. We stayed in the 'Appart'City Pau Centre' which have basic cooking facilities in the 'appartments' which is great if you don't want to eat all your meals out.

We drove to the ground so we could leave straight from there and drove back up through France overnight for a ferry the following morning, we got overtaken by the Bath kit van in the middle of the night like we were standing still.

We visited the 'Stade d'eaux vives Pau-Pyrénées' for an afternoon. It is a man made canoe slalom complex.

The ground was undergoing a fair bit of building work so facilities may be a bit better than when we were there. The locals were very welcoming.

Enjoy.

Thanks for the comments. Travel and accommodation will be handled by our Supporters Club, so no worries there. Yes, Pau have undertaken a massive stadium rebuild, but are saying that it will be completed by the start of the season.

I remember the boulevard d'pyrenees was where a lot of the bars were. A lot of supporters congregated around the bars down there. It's not far from the old town either which i only found the night we were due to fly home.

Its very easy to get to.......but of course that's all sorted for you.

The centre is quite small and there are not that many bars. The old part is pretty and towards one side there are nice views of the Pyrennes.

The ground is perhaps three miles out of town and we took a bus there and got bored of waiting on the way back so then walked which took about an hour.

Like most small French towns in got quite quiet early on.

They have a very rousing song/call to arms before the game which is worth looking on U-Tube at.

Overall very good trip and a very different trip to say a Leinster or a Stade Francais
