Samoa Bankrupt!
08 November, 2017 14:34
I realised that Samoa were one of the poorer Pacific Nations but was surprised to here that Samoa are bankrupt.

What I didn't realise was that they don't share revenue from their matches. Nations don't have an obligation to do so. However, surely it is both incredibly greedy and shortsighted to deny them any funds at all! Are we that flushed with rugby playing nations that we can leave Samoa and presumably other nations to survive on donations from their own public population 197,618.

There are a lot of complications here, not least that World Rugby do give them a lot of money and it is oftentimes misappropriated.

It's a little bit more complicated than not being greedy and handing out money for the sake of it.

The Samoan Union are seemingly pretty corrupt and it's their shambles of a management that's to blame for the bankruptcy.

The RFU are covering all the costs of the touring party the week before the game.

The Pacific RPA, the one that Manu Tuillagi is involved with, is looking at doing a crowdfunding thing by the looks of it. More details to be announced apparently.
