Wales game has been a good match but as ever Wales couldn't make their dominance pay and then committed hari kari. Owain Williams has had a good game as has the Welsh openside.

Not sure how you mark Ioane, he made the Welsh centres look so slow. NZ won that with 37% possession.

Is that what Todd is trying to do?

Is the man playing number 5 for England today the same guy who puts on the BB&W occasionally? Just couldn't recognise him by his play for England when he doesn't do anything like the same for Bath. So it couldn't be the same Charlie Ewells who had a very good game for the country. Must be a coincidence of same names.

I think that applies to JJ too, he is often immense in defence but just because he doesn't score eye catching tries he is supposedly rubbish for Bath

My comment was tongue in cheek aimed at BoB, but I agree, JJ's importance in defence is vastly under-reported.

In relation to JJ I think that there are 2 things that frustrate:

- he used to be great in attack and defence for Bath;
- he still is great in attack and defence for England.

So, it must be something with the way that Bath currently play that doesn't suit his attacking play as well as the 2014 / 15 Bath and England?

I don't think his defence is ever in doubt for either is it?

Certainly for England he is always behind, not only a dominant pack but also one going forward. For Bath he needs to be playing with the same inside centre more often rather than a constant turnover of 12's.

For England he is nearly always outside Farrell, interestingly he has scored 17 tries for England only 2 behind Ashton.

Fully agree I have always thought JJ is a great defender and very important to the way we play and in particular, attack. He is vital to our future and must be retained at all costs.

Cannot say the same about the International Ewells double's efforts at the Rec. It is up to him to prove me and a number of other fans who have said similar all wrong, and I genuinely hope he does. We certainly need him with Attwood's continued absence. Any news on this front, and I cannot understand why he hasn't under gone surgery?

It must be a bleak in the Ewels household this morning as he realises that despite scoring on his Twickenham debut in from of 80,000 that he still hasn't won BathOvalBaller's approval.

i guess Saturday's performance puts Charlie in the 'challenger' category alongside Lawes and Kruis but behind Launchbury and (Super) Mario ?

I hear Sarries wanted to swap Itoje for Ewells, but we tuned Itoje down as he wouldn’t meet the high standards we demand of our 2nd rows.

No he doesn't have to do anything of the sort (that would be practically impossible anyway). He has to prove himmself to TB and Eddie (which he seems to have done. You (and I) are mere irrelevances by comparison.

Unfortunately I missed the second half and still haven't watched, however in the player ratings in the Times, this is what it said about Ewells:

Charlie Ewels 5/10
Bath Rugby
Caps 6 Age 22 Ht 1.99m Wt 108kg
It seemed that he was bound to play for England as a former Under-20 captain, but on this evidence he has a way to go to be considered a Test lock

Fromn what I saw he had a good game, but what happened in the second half to get that rating (It was done by Stephen Jones)

This from the Gruniad on the five players to watch!

"Charlie Ewels
England are particularly well stocked at second row but it should not go unnoticed that Ewels has leapfrogged George Kruis in the pecking order. Kruis’s greatest strength is his ability at the lineout and Steve Borthwick is a huge fan of his studiousness but Ewels is a player Eddie Jones has had his eye on for a while now. He singled him out after his performance against the Barbarians in May and was similarly impressed with how he played against Argentina over the summer. While this was a mixed performance, he is slowly but surely acclimatising to the international stage."

Yes, he is still writing about rugby as is Eddie Butler still commentating about it, in fact they have a lot in common; they're both Welsh, useless and have managed to keep the same jobs for over 20 years.
