Not a bad season already by all accounts with wins over Leicester, saracens and Toulon (Sm46)

Cheer up BH, your out of the relegation zone being unbeaten in 3 games, transfer that positivity to Bath Rugby.

Scarlets have to play us at the Rec the Toulon at Parc y Scarlets, Toulon have the same fixtures as us but reversed. I'd say we certainly have control of our destiny, can't see Scarlets beating us and Toulon.

Hard to single anyone out, just a top quality performance from everyone. I agreed with Flouw as MoM - he was phenomenal. I think Beno has come on fantastically this season. He and Max Lahiff were rock solid on the scrum. Aled Brew has proved to be a fantastic signing and Paul Grant made sure we didn't miss Taulupe as much as we might have expected.

Toulon are a very good side with a massive amount of experience and a large squad of skilled, powerful players. If we play like that every week then teams will have to play very well to beat us.

Agree with this, the stand was rocking.

A complete team effort, nobody came up short in my opinion.

In particular Dunn, Flow, Garvs, Beno, JJ and the back 3 were all on fire. Also a special mention for Cooke who chased the backside off of everything.

As a side note it was super to see global names like Nonu, Vermulen, Basteraud and Trin duc trotting out at the Rec. Even better to beat them!

The final positive was the lack of any obvious injuries, though not sure what befell Taps?

Re: Match thread

Incredible win, I'm unfortunately not wealthy enough to go to games on the regular so I watched it in The Canon (weird feeling watching a game on TV in Bath when it's at the rec) But it was a brilliant game and I'm sure being there would have been terrific.

We played with pace and intensity in the first half, I think Blackadder may have finally realised we have the players to execute a more aggressive game plan where we can attack from deeper. I also like our move away from box kicking to putting it into the 10s hands. Gives more range in space to kick to rather than being a predictable loop along the 5 metre line.

Forwards carrying game was excellent, even when we didn't make yards we recycled pretty well which cost us last week with Vermulen's excellent work over the ball. Obano, Dunn and Stooke all punching holes and the backs executed their patterns so quickly after we sucked in defenders. It was a lovely template that allowed players to make individual decisions whilst everyone is on the same wave length. Good coaching which was well executed.

And we have to mention Aled. I think Flouw got MOTM and my god he was class but Aled was fantastic. It wasn't just the powerful runs and great lines the sheer will power was incredible. One of the best try saving tackles I've ever seen. There was also one point where he over ran a ruck that Toulon got good numbers too, Brew rushed in, his body angle was all over the place and totally wrong and yet somehow he held the counter ruck off just long enough with pure grit to recylce it.

I know the signings like Toby, Burns and Underhill are the ones that get the headlines and the ones we get excited by, but arguably it's quite easy to know Toby was a great number 8 and throw money at him to get him to sign. But our recruitment to get Aled Brew and Paul Grant should be applauded. No one was excited by either of those and not many were sure who they were. Both have been beyond excellent. I bloody love Paul Grant, he's really good. His support lines are superb, he runs at space and frees his arms brilliantly for offloads and his offensive rucking work is superb. I'm not sure how he didn't make it as a Super Rugby player, I guess New Zealand doesn't have trouble producing back rowers.

I've run out of synonyms for excellent now.

Great result, thanks to a fantastic 20 minutes and an aggressive defence. The second half was our usual headless chicken, comedy of errors, couldn't retain possession to save our lives, barely touched the ball and when we did couldn't last two phases without dropping it or being turned over, but otherwise, a good win.

Brilliant win. Aggression everywhere and some fabulous individual performances. Front five were non stop, Obano, Dunn and Ewels never took a backward step. Louw world class. JJ and Watson the spark... but Brew MotM for me. The man is on fire and looks like he's loving every single minute.

Well done all involved, including the crowd. The Rec was rocking! This looks like a team being shaped in Todd's All Black image, and I liked his post-match comments, "We are a really good team, and we will grow from this. There is more to come." I agree. This is a special group of players, who are being well coached and excellently captained, who clearly really want to play for each other. It's far from perfect but it's looking good.

+1 Some will be thinking that Toulon haven't been great this season & allowing them a bonus point after such a great start was disappointing & might cost us winning the group but they were really up for this & strained every sinew to save their season so just getting over the line was an achievement.

Excellent result, with some really great play in there. Plaudits abound, but Ewels looks bigger and far better as a result of his time with England. I canít wait for BoBís comment on him as he was knocking back a lot of heavy Toulon units all game. 33 tackles and 100% from Dunn? No wonder heís with the England squad. I can see us losing a few for the WC at this rate.

Iím surprised no one was in Nigeís ear about the pull back off the line out for their first try with focus instead on the grounding.

Was out yesterday, avoided the score somehow and watched the full replay this morning. A well deserved result, so many strong performances, some from big names, some from 3rd choice. Brew is probably my pick of the day but Obano and Dunn also set the right aggressive, direct tone.

As constructive criticism, I am still not sure we are defending the phases quite right. If the opposition are going sideways, no problem. But Toulon made steady ground on most drives and at many times we stood off completely. If we can have at least one player trying to get in first over the top we could save ourselves a lot of ground and desperate defence. Kahn did this well when he came on. If we don't it is far too easy for opposition to build the phases.

Louw was great at his role yesterday but he can't be everywhere and I just think we could do more to stop the long retreat back to our line. Better teams come away with points in our 22 when they get there. Trin-Duc had a dodgy game for such an experienced player.

Anyway, fantastic result, great for everyone at the club. Don't ignore Scarlets!

Yes in our hands - meaning we have to win both matches probably with a bonus point. All still to play for.

Sorry to have to report this, but anyone else in the West Stand notice homophobic insults shouted at Owens yesterday? We seem to get the lion's share of the clueless corporate idiots in amongst us who just come along for the p**s up.

Bad language is unfortunately commonplace with 'fans' like this but never heard it brought down to this level before. No stewards in sight to mention it to.

A real shame, because it was such a brilliant day otherwise and the place was bouncing. Shouldn't take away from the game but I was genuinely a bit shocked by that. Morons.

If the remark was from a corporate box I would report it to the club. I hosted a few corporate events, (Test Matches at the Oval) We had an idiot abusing the Aussies from the balcony next to us language was appalling. I complained because our group contained both Australians and women but even if it didn't I would have said something.

Surrey CC were excellent, they stamped it out immediately. When they reported back they pointed out it was not only morally wrong but caused financial problems for the club as businesses rebook the same box often annually.

They lose bookings if their clients have to listen to vile abuse. If the Bath are made aware they will almost certainly do something even retrospectively.

This absolutely needs to be reported direct to the Club. As well as being completely unacceptable, this is entirely against the principles set out in the Supporters Charter. Please contact me directly if I can help - my contact details are on the BRSC website, allez-bath.

I also had to instruct a drunken yob in the East stand to tone it down. Too many idiots coming to games that can't hold their drink.

To be fair, 20% possession and terratory in the second half isnít ideal is it? Good job we are having storming 1st halves recently. Still, the game is 80 mins and if we keep winning you wonít get too many complaints from me...

Got to agree, when we win I couldn't give a toss how much possession we had. Sport is only about winning and it really doesn't matter how you go about it. 3-0 win every game would work for me.

However when we lose our limited possession game plan does appear to matter.

I wasn't there but crowd behaviour seems most likely to be a problem with late kick offs.

I have said for a long time we have a squad biased towards being a great team on our day rather than strength in depth. A fantastic result and the sort of match which means I forgive them on the days we don't play at our best or lose games we should win.

I think we are showing strength in depth.

Look at our injury list. Look how previous non first choicers have developed - Dunn, Mercer, Obano, Clarke, Brew.

20% possession in the entire second half, wow.

If only we could hold onto the ball for longer than a phase or two.

I don't think we try hard enough to win the ball back, rather than not keeping it ourselves. Happy to stand off rucks. Works sometimes, not others. Great win though!

Banahan admitted as much in the post-match interview. The game plan in the second half was to not compete, but fan out and trust the defence to hold out, which it did aside from one (excellent) second-half try from them.

It's almost as if Louw (and then Kahn when he came on) is the only one allowed to compete for the ball. Seems a dangerous game to play to me, but against their team of superstars, they only won 10-3 with 80% possession.

I agree that it'd be nice to have more ball. But there's clearly a plan to play without it, it's not as simple as "we can't get it or hold onto it".

Dropped passes, balls thrown into touch, turned over on the floor, no look offloads into opposition hands. We couldn't maintain any sort of pressure in the second half because our basics evaporated, as they often do after we get a good lead.

Blackadder admitted on Saturday he's trying to get us to play with the ball more. We don't win the ball back or keep it ourselves particularly well.

I do think we lack gamesmanship, Irish teams in particular seem to be experts at falling on the wrong side of a ruck or lying over the ball just long enough to get away with it. But the reason our possession was so low on Saturday was more that we were attempting to put that extra pass in, or messing up our exit and starving ourselves of the ball rather than the opposition controlling it.

Comments on here saying how great the atmosphere was on Saturday, comments on here complaining that a few idiots had drunk too much.

There's the trade off and I for one would vote for the cracking atmosphere and accept the odd drunken yob overstepping the line. The trick is to get the stewards to do something about it, this also has the upside of keeping them too busy to implement their often pointless and pedantic 'you cant go down this way as its now 10 minutes to the end of the game' rules.

'Dropped passes, balls thrown into touch, turned over on the floor, no look offloads into opposition hands. We couldn't maintain any sort of pressure in the second half because our basics evaporated, as they often do after we get a good lead'

BO, we all crave quick ball and we won't score many points without it. There are risks to be taken when in possession to create that opening and no game will be perfect. I would like to see our stats improve by pinching more ball at defensive rucks rather than lose tempo in attack, just my opinion though.
