Welcome etc.
but?
Anyone have any inside info or care to speculate on the process or strategy behind this?

It will be interesting to know what attracted us to a French div. 2 player but as has been said you can unearth gems from unusual sources. Presumably the new coach, who we also know nothing about, rates this guy. It does seem that unlike our more successful rivals we do our shopping in the bargain basement!

It’s been 24hrs and nobody knows nuffink, astonishing!
Just seems utterly random which means it’s probably anything but.
So question, is an unknown prop from French Div2 gonna be better than a top Championship porp?
How do ‘they’ know he is better than etc?
Or are we really getting a French coach as rumoured in the Head Coach thread?
Come on someone has to know.

Last time we had a coach/prop combo it was Geech and whassisname. That worked out well!

Found his career stats;

Victor Delmas

Hard to gain much info from it really, he’s not first choice at his club as most appearances are from the bench, but he’s played for the French U20. Can’t really see why we’ve signed him when there will be players of similar potential in the championship who will probably be cheaper.

On the on Shane, I'm not too surprised that not many people on the Bath rugby forum are all that familiar with French D2 rugby players.
Interesting he other hand though, the last player we nabbed from French D2 rugby was Leroy Houston - I'd be happy if this worked out as well.

Aren't we also getting a French coach at the same time? In which, I'm happy to assume that he (and the rest of our coaching crew) know more about Delmas than anyone here does.

OK, I was asked not to say, but apparently this is a 3 part deal, a coach, a prop and the Bayeux Tapestry mounted on the walls of Farleigh House.

Not even being first choice for a 2nd division club doesn’t sound too clever.

Guess we have to hope this an informed signing that the coaching team approve of rather than a cheap option found by the money men.

Apparently the bath medical team asked the club to sign someone cheap but very strong to help carry the growing medical equipment around Farleigh.

of course, by that logic, nor did Batty, Houston, Knight, Brew or Lewis.

Besides, he's a THP - since when was "clever" a prime requirement?

True, but there were special circumstances involved with a few of those. That may of course be the case with this guy. Let’s hope so.

Hopefully he's at least the 17st some websites suggest. We get bullied up front far too often and as has been written in numerous papers, and fairly obvious from the stands, we need to bulk up in the front five.

Albeit difference was a quick search and you'd have seen Leroy Houston played for the Reds in their Super Rugby winning campaign of 2011 - where as I can't find anything on Delmas' pedigree!

That said - welcome Victor, I wish you the best of luck here.

I presume with Thomas, Lahiff, Perenise already signed up for next year and Delmas only being 26 that he has tons of potential to grow into in the next couple of years and will take over Perenise to be third choice in due course and then compete to start once settled in? The coaches will have scouted him out I am sure and just because he is playing D2 off the bench means nothing given the money in D2 still and who knows the circumstances!

Their starting TH Anthony Roux is a quite long term Colomiers player, although had stint at Lyon where he won promotion to the Top 14, but who at 34 is possibly a gnarled old wise scrummager and less impactful off the bench than a 26 year old. Doesn't mean Delmas is a bad player at all though.

It is, however, unusual for the Club not to come out with some PR talking up a new player is it not?

Who the heck was Beno Obano before we signed him? There are contradicting arguments on these boards that a) we should only sign proven superstars or b) retain every single player we have on our books. Find a decent blend and, if we can, sign unpolished gems and polish them!

Coming from the pro D2 he's got to have come cheap which seems to fit the bill when it comes to our apparent salary cap issues.
