If we did sign him we would have to pay a transfer fee out of the cap. Madrigan signed for three years beginning of last season.

As far as I'm aware, transfer fees area till outside of the cap - just as they always have been.

Or did you mean "outside the cap"?

Really think this is jumping to conclusions. He was in Bath, loads of people visit Bath, he has a contract with Bristol, he's a 10 we just binned a decent one. He's an international not ideal. Tenuous at best.

+1

He's not going to want to spend his leisure time in Bristol is he, so not surprising to see him in Bath.

Signing on fees to players yes, not to other clubs.

Also this is the most ridiculous non story.

Exactly CC. A signing on fee is a payment to the player, and salary. A transfer fee is a payment to the club, the player sees not a penny, and isn't part of the salary.
We paid Russel Crowd in order to release [Redacted] from his contract, which is a transfer fee, and not salary. Had we also bought [Redacted] a nice flat of Johnson St, that would have been an inducement, of benefit to the player, and considered in lieu of salary.
Mind, the £60k PRL fine for Faletau is also in lieu of salary, but mysteriously counted outside the cap too.

Either way, this thread is pointless as he isn't going anywhere just now and simply spent a day being touristy in a tourist destination close to his new home.

Bath is merely a stopping point between two big cities, as Brunel understood. He was probably just using the toilets.

Brunel is joining us?

Surely not to play, but might have some ideas on the new stadium.

I'd wager old Isambard would bring some industry and grunt to the team.

Or maybe it is Jacques Brunel? Our new head coach?

If we had Brunel as manager I think we would probably have to redesign the stadium, seeing past a row of stovepipe hats could be a serious problem!

LOL - I hope this is not what constitutes as a transfer rumour these days! I imagine some of our players visit London, Bristol, Manchester and all sorts seeing friends and family with no intention of signing for their rugby teams. I am very confident we will not be signing Ian Madigan...
