Disappointed to see Burns on the bench, quite honestly. It feels like Lewis is being given a game for the sake of it. Burns is in no way in need of a rest, and Lewis is off next season.

Much of the team looks like it is forward-looking - which is a great policy - but then why not play Rory Jennings?

Good to see some of the young kids starting and some of the guys coming back from injury.

I'm astounded that Guy M is allowed to play against us.

Yep but we need Burns for the AP games coming up. It would be pretty disasterous if he got injured with RP injured as well.

It's all about Northampton Saints next week. No need to risk important players such as Burns and Tapuai.

He was scratching around in the first 40 last week, and then found his rhythm in the second half. I'd rather see him keep that going. And also, I very much want us to win this game.

Delighted to see Batty back, interesting to see the it looks as if VV has been held accountable for the shocking line out stats last week as he is not on the bench but Charles is instead.

Which makes Burns playing the full 80 last week all the more baffling. Though my argument is somewhat undermined with the crossfield kick for Wilson's try!

"Much of the team looks like it is forward-looking"

I'd say there almost no long term (next season) development value in at least 8 of those players.

It feel more to me like get some people up to speed and don't hurt anyone.

"I'm astounded that Guy M is allowed to play against us."

Given the above I'm not really sure why we'd care enough to make a fuss?

Interesting selection - principally influenced by the need for a strong 23 v Saints I imagine.

Hope we are not taking Ospreys for granted - they have held back 3 of their Wales U20s for this. A potential banana skin.

I had taken that as 'forward looking' to the next few games (i.e. resting people for important games) than next season?

I was more interested in the contractual / registration complications of having GM play against his own team (who may still pay some of or all of his salary?). If he gave away a pen in the last second for a Bath win wouldn't it smell a bit fishy - assuming he hasn't already signed for them for next season..

Maybe, but would be a bit fishy if a Banners (for example, I'm not saying he would) gave away a pen in the last min of our game against Glaws. You just have to trust players to be professional.

I'd guess there may or may not be a clause in Guy's contract, but even if there is we may have had a chat and said "don't worry about it, we'd rather keep Guy happy than win this game."

Banners would be different - we are his employer and he plays for us. We are GMs employer as well, but he plays for them.

The players are professionals.

The players are professionals.

It was Stuart Barnes too for Bristol against Bath in one of the first Bath games I ever saw at Twickers (JPS Final). However, again that's different (its the team he was moving to, not the one he was registered with).

In the premier league football, if a player is on loan he can't play against the team that is loaning him. It was after a couple of incidents (notably Lua Lua who scored against his parent club Newcastle):

In the Premier League, players on loan are not permitted to play against the team which holds their registration (section 7.2 of rule M.6). Loanees are, however, allowed to play against their 'owning' clubs in cup competitions, unless they have played for their owning club in that cup during that season.

I have no issue with the players being professional, just surprised that it isn't a rule to cover it off. I think that loan contracts can stipulate it though?

I think the biggest risk is the lack of any real game time together for the key combinations

It could feel like a pre-season with lots of worthy endeavour but error ridden down to unfamiliarity of playing together, leaving the end result very much in the balance

Absolutely.

Many posters are forgetting that even though this is a Mickey Mouse competition we really want to win.
