A bit of fun?
08 August, 2018 08:24
Any ideas on what Todds team will start against Bristol? With not too many injuries it should be interesting to see who gets the nod.
im guessing,

1, Norguera
2, Dunn
3, Thomas
4, Attwood
5, Stooke
6, Ellis
7, Underhill
8, Faletau
9, Chudley
10,Priestland
11,Brew
12,Roberts
13,Willison
14,Rocco
15,Homer

16,Walker,17,Lahiff,18,Van Rooyan,19,Ewels,20,Garvey,21,Kahn,22,Burns,23,Vuna

im guessing,

1, Norguera CATT
2, Dunn
3, Thomas
4, Attwood (REALLY ISN'T A 4 BUT IS EWELS FIT?)
5, Stooke
6, Ellis
7, Underhill
8, Faletau
9, Chudley
10,Priestland
11,Brew
12,Roberts
13,Willison
14,Rocco
15,Homer

16,Walker,17,Lahiff,18,Van Rooyan,19,Ewels,20,Garvey,21,Kahn,22,Burns,23,Vuna

Most the same as yours. If Ewels is fit enough for your bench he would definitely start at 4, tighhead locks Attwood at 5 and Stooke on the bench I suspect. Joe Cokanasiga will be in the 23. Van Rooyan will have some time off I would have thought so doubt he would make it. I would also guess Garvey at 6 with Ellis on the bench, although I would go with Ellis to start.

I would imagine the pitch type will (it certainly should) influence the player selection...

I would like to see Burns establish some form this season & the sooner he gets in the groove the better. Assuming he has a decent pre-season I would start him ahead of Priestland

Offy shows a 1st team squad of 47 and 19 senior Academy ... more genuine/viable options than we've ever had I would reckon - as evidenced by the strength of the bench in above selections.

Garvey is still captain isn't he? Bound to start I'd have thought.

Yeah, I don't see how you leave a fit Garvey out at the moment.
So... depending on fitness, and how they go in the friendlies (especially the newcomers)

15. Homer
14. Rokoduguni
13. Clark
12. Roberts
11. Brew/Vuna
10. Burns/Priestland
09. Chudley

1. Catt
2. Dunn
3. Thomas
4. Ewels
5. Attwood
6. Garvey
7. Underhill
8. Faletau

16. van Rooyen/Paz; 17. Walker/Batty; 18. Lahiff; 19. Stooke; 20. ZMercer
21. Cook; 22. Priestland/Burns; 23. Cokanasiga

I was going to start Charteris - but plastic pitch; same reason for not including Perenise and Fatuali'i as a bench option; also for favouring Van Rooyen over Pax, and Burns over Priestland

Grief! When you see all those names and the quality of those who can't even get on the bench it makes the heart beat faster. If only we can keep most of that squad fit this year.....

It's not a full plastic pitch though is it? Should be fine for Charteris etc.

I would be surprised if Charteris plays if it is true (as discussed on other threads) that they are trying to loan him out. This would keep him out of the salary cap until his future is settled?

Ahh, sorry - Hybrid is it? I thought they went for full plastic - in that case, make the changes as indicated.

Given that that never even earned a rating of "rumour" rather than "wild speculation" it probably wasn't true in the first place - nor would it be indicative of the pecking order given that he hasn't gone out on loan.
If he's fit and in form, then he's currently our first choice #4; but it won't take much of a niggle, or a slight drop in form to see Ewels overtake him - which may well happen during this season by rights (and may have done over the summer with extra age in Luke's legs, and another fully pro pre-season for Charlie.

Couldn't disagree more with this - I have no gripe at all with the guy and he was clearly very good in his day but I think that day is well past and for me Ewels is a country mile ahead of him (sorry Bovb).

Our squad thread shows 48! The Offy hasn't put Jacques Van Rooyen in yet! winking smiley

For me:

Catt, Dunn, Thomas, Ewels, Attwood, Garvey, Underhill, Faletau
Kahn, Priestland, Brew, Roberts, Willison, Roko, Homer.

Van Rooyen, Walker, Lahiff, Stooke, Mercer, Chudley, Burns, Cokanisiga.

If the centres click and the front five fires, led by Attwood, then that is a really impressive 'on paper' XXIII.

Definitely - at 23 needs to get the chance to show something this season. Also looking forward to seeing Max Wright and Max Green get some game time (in the little competitions presumably) they look like talented young men.

Particulaly when you note it's without Beno Obano, Anthony Watson and Jonathan Joseph!

Darren Atkins Age 21 years, Fullback, 6 ft 1 in, 13 st 4 lbs. Chance to shine in 18/19 with AW's injury!
