Watching the Queen's Jubilee I could not believe the coverage which told us almost nothing about the history of the boats, apart from a wide eyed interviewer hardly able to believe that some people actually lived on boats. Almost nothing about the Dunkirk boats. Celebrity driven rubbish fronted by lightweights. Is it not possible to have anything without a cooking slot? Very poor and a real dumb down from the way these things used to be covered. Fortunately even the rain and the BBC could not spoil a great occasion.
There were a thousand boats on the river yesterday and every one of them had a story to tell. The visual coverage was great but badly let down by the commentary team. Some decent research and production time could have made this an outstanding tv event. what a wasted opportunity
I switched to Sky after 15 mins, just couldn't cope with BBC - so up themselves. Sky was far better - laid back, let you watch what was going on rather than interviewing celebs in boats and talking down to us.......
Suspect the BBC are somewhat complacent with these national events.
Very poor indeed.
Totally missed the point of the whole bally thing! Visual coverage was good though (sound turned down), and HRH seemed to be enjoying it all. Increased my admiration and awe for HM - what stamina! Bet they were frozen by the end.
I am beginning to wonder if they are deliberately patronising us or whether they don't know any better i.e. that there is indeed a question to be asked? Can one safely assume that none of them would be seen dead in an open boat - or anything that goes up and down rivers or crosses open water? Add to that, no sense of the history whatsoever, no curiosity or stories about how much effort many of the boat's owners had gone through to get there etc. Very glad in a way that the rain put the kybosh on most of the equipment. Let's hope they do better tomorrow and have the first division fully paid up professionals on the job, having done their homework.
Proud to be wearing the BB&W and feared by all who play in the English Prem!
