Is it going to be Worcesters greatest sporting season ever?

Having visited St Georges Lane last night to watch City come back from 1-0 down to beat play off rivals Gainsborough 2-1 it made me think that this year could well be Worcesters best ever sporting season.
Lets start with us....

Promoted from the Championship and being backed as relegation favorites by some, and nearly everybody thought that we would at least be in the relegation scrap. However, we have never really been involved in that scrap (certainly not since December) and we will almost certainly not finish in the bottom 2 of the league, and there's even a possibility of finishing 9th and a faint hope of 8th. We have a good coach who has made some ambitous signings and we have, for the first tme in a while, played good rugby, with direction and precision. As well as this, we have a huge sports complex just get the go ahead, meaning we will have 8 tennis courts, 2 swimming pools and a gym all built by the end of the year at Sixways.

Worcester Wolves- They are 2nd in the British Basketball League (top tier of basketball) and have already qualified to reach the playoffs. They have already achieved their highest ever finish having only got promoted 7 seasons ago. They have also got a brand new home being built for them, a 2,500 capacity 'Worcester Arena' where they will play their home matches.

Worcester City- After only escaping relegation last season due to other clubs going into administration, they were also many peoples favorites for the drop again this season. As well as being financially skint they have massive issues over where they are going to play from 2013 onwards. Despite all of this uncertainty, they are currently 7th in Blue Square North, 2 points off the playoffs. They are unbeaten in their last 7 games, and have won their last 4 and with a relatively easy run in, they have a very realistic chance of making the playoffs, where they will have the chance to get promoted to the Conference.

Despite there still being a lot of the season to go in all 3 sports, for a City of only 97,000, these achievements make me extremely proud to be from Worcester. We are punching well above our weight sporting wise and it can only be good for the City in the short and long run. All we need now is for the cricket team to have a successful summer...

Good post this.

It is certainly a good season for sports in Worcester. I for one love to see all the teams doing well in the city, whether it be football, cricket, basketball or rugby and with them all currently doing well, it does seem like its shaping up to be the most successful ever, however there is a way to go and the Wolves could lose in the first round of the playoffs, and City could slump to the lower end of the league....

and we could still get relegated (Sm12)

And going from strength to strength with a hotel being built on their site as well and some good signings for this season.

Not to mention the new sports arena in St Johns.

Hope the good folk of the Faithful City help all the respective teams in their final push, and maybe the teams can help the faithful forget day to day worries, or help make life a little sweeter, as the case maybe.

Good times for helping get the city on the sporting map again.
