Whilst Henson has had his moments, they have perhaps not been as frequent as, say, Messrs Cipriani, Care or Armitage.
I'm not defending him, he's been stupid, I just think it's interesting to compare how he is treated by the Press and regarded by the rugby public with others. It's also interesting to see how Cardiff have dealt with his latest misdemeanour compared to the indulgence Oirish have shown Delon Armitage, and Quins Care.
Presumably Irish and Quins think there is more to lose by throwing the preverbial 'babies out with the bath water' in terms of the players going elsewhere and becoming a
Potential future threat to their current teams. Alternatively, they may be looking towards a more holistic approach to their players 'recovery'.
In truth Blues can take a zero tolerance stance on Henson, as he has previous drinking misdemeanours...Cardiff Central at 3 in the morning, train issues with 'friends', and now planes too. They have seen similar cases with Powell and Phillips and feel they need to make it clear it is not what they want from their players.
Some might say they are losing their nose to spite their face, but in truth, in this instance, they have lost very little, and it can't be long before another reality TV programme is aired, that involves the Sozzled Narcisus.
Loyalty counts both ways - Care and Armitage have been a long time at their respective clubs and presumably have shown decent behaviour over a long period (as well as the misdemeanors we are all aware of).
Blues by contrast haven't had Gavin long and are probably paying a pretty penny in wages - the expectation is probably higher that he should behave himself.
Also, Gavin has gone out of his way to get in the media with dancing and dating programs, so he has to be whiter than white when he's in public. I'm not going to throw stones, but he should know better and expect the treatment he has.....
