Very serious stuff, if true, will certainly help them a great deal.

Has struggled a little with the new scrum laws on the international scene, but no substitute for class at this level.

Great, great signing for them

Or given his last (ever?) game in a Wales shirt, 30 minutes. Even that useless tub of lard Aaron Jarvis is keeping him on the Ospreys bench.

Re: Adam Jones to Bris

I'm sure Aaron speaks highly of you as well ballsout.

Or did you not quite make a first XV at this level?

I he carrying an undisclosed injury?

Re: Adam Jones to Bris
TeflonTed 15 July, 2014 09:35
Who? Ballout?

No he's just fond of making somewhat rude personal remarks about certain players!

As to Adam, probably yes, he was having on-going shoulder issues for ages, and given his position in the front row this might not be unexpected, and in the end could easily be career limiting.

Re: Adam Jones to Bris
elegia 15 July, 2014 13:07
so looks like it's not happening

note for ballsout - it's better to keep quiet & have people believe you to be a fool, than to post & remove all doubt

So we're not allowed to spend as much as your dear selves until we're promoted to the promised land? Dirty peasants at Bristol should know their place...

How not to show you have good sources, win friends and give your club a good name 101?

;-)

Re: Adam Jones to Bris
TeflonTed 16 July, 2014 14:26
Rinkadink, calm down, it's only a game. We have no idea what you're spending, and you have no idea what we're spending, come to that.

I interpret what USAW was saying as "IF Brizz are recruiting Adam Jones he won't be cheap", which is undeniably true.

His little knock about "how to buy promotion" is a bit daft considering what we've spent over the last few years to "give away" our previously hard won promotion, and smacks of people in glass houses who have managed to smash their own windows!

I'd just ignore him, I usually do.

Re: Adam Jones to Bris
Rinkadink 16 July, 2014 15:05
I'm perfectly calm, post was made with tongue in cheek - I know the Internet is not so good for conveying tone so I'll accept responsibility for that one. Tip is appreciated all the same though! :-)

As for spending, it will probably come out over the course of the coming season as it did last. London Welsh actually had the same playing budget as us in the previous, was confirmed by a couple of media outlets. A couple of seasons back when they first won promotion they had a larger budget than us so they're hardly the plucky underdogs as some quarters made out, their new signings demonstrate that nicely.

Can't wait for proceedings to kick off now, seems like an age an things have been quiet. I'll confess to being a little nervous regarding numbers at Ashton Gate after failing, Friday nights used to be really good at the Mem so I hope that continues.

Re: Adam Jones to Bris
TeflonTed 16 July, 2014 17:25
Yes I like Fridays, but it's easy for me being 3 miles from the ground and with a willing taxi driver at home. Appreciate that it isn't so good for everyone, but the floodlit games at 6Ways have about the best atmosphere we can muster.

As to spending, even the best informed press leaks are guestimates, and the only real truth is in the audited figures, and by the time they come round we've generally lost the will to live.

Numbers aside, your recruitment looks impressive, and our change of heart back to trying to grow some home made talent to supplement our recruitment will be interesting to say the least. Many here think we still haven"t got a decent 10, and ever since Goodie left we have certainly struggled in that position.

There's a few miserable sods on here saying that the league is meaningless until you meet us in the final, but I don't see that. Everyone will be out to get us, and we're changing the shape of the team so much that there must be some risk attached.Personally I feel Ryan Lamb is good enough when he's firing on all cylinders, and Mieres could be so much better than he has ever shown us so far.

Maybe we should take the view that we risk changing so much we may even play well...'cos we certainly didn't do that last year.

Looking forward to seeing how it goes, good luck except for the first and last part 1 fixtures of course.

Bit touchy Rinky!

"How not to show you have good sources, win friends and give your club a good name 101?"

The only sources I have were the multitude of rugby bloggers saying that the other day. Whether it's true or not isn't up to me... welcome to forum life; rife with speculation. And honestly, one fairly benign post is going to give the entire club a bad name?!?

Maybe with the 101 comment I was suggesting you might teach us a thing or two? winking smiley

As you quite rightly pointed out... look where it got us.

Fail at reading comprehension much? Can see why you're ignored on here, might join that particular party.

Rinkadink where do we park for Ashton Gate ? A roundball friend mentioned the local cricket club. Any suggestions ?

Adam Jones is going to Bristol. Split with Toloun until the playoffs - I don't have a source/report, I just know it's happening. Interesting...

Re: Adam Jones to Bris
Skipper 19 July, 2014 16:54
If all the above is correct, In my opinion the loan with Toulon with the intention is for him to appear for Bristol in time for the play offs and taking into consideration the previously mentioned shoulder injury is all a bit risky. I would be incredibly worried that playing in France with their more powerful forwards than found in the Rabo he would pick up an injury and miss the play offs.

Re: Adam Jones to Bris
ballsout 20 July, 2014 09:33
Like Jenkins I doubt he'll get much game time for Toulon

Re: Adam Jones to Bris
TeflonTed 20 July, 2014 09:44
Well, much as I dislike the playoff system, we're stuck with it for the time being, and must accept that.

While acknowledging that any club has the right to hire any player it wishes, and manage a squad to maximise effectiveness throughout the season, it seems to me to be a step too far to have a player on the books who will not even be present for the largest part of the season, then bring him on for the playoffs.

Cynical in the extreme, really gets us as close to buying promotion as can be got, except of course it can fail.

Let's hope it does.

Re: Adam Jones to Bris
Southstand(again) 20 July, 2014 10:01
Based on our experiences of signing British Lions props I'm not particularly worried if Bris bring in Adam as an end of season "super sub"
We just have to make sure we make full use of the penalties his scrummaging now creates.
He's been "boring in" on his opposite prop for years and with the accent now on driving straight he's been sussed by referees.
I'm pretty sure even Championship refs watch the telly !

Re: Adam Jones to Bris
TeflonTed 20 July, 2014 21:54
And from The Rugby Paper write up today it's all possibly hot air anyway!

Plenty of stuff about Toulon, not a word about Bristol

Re: Adam Jones to Bris
Patgadd 21 July, 2014 13:36
Hang on Ted; I've just read that article in The Rugby Paper (didn't buy it, just read it in Sainsbury's) and there is in fact a very small mention of Bristol in it, though if I remember aright it was just as something that was considered by him. Seems the hairy one has no idea himself where he'll be playing!

Re: Adam Jones to Bris
TeflonTed 21 July, 2014 16:54
Yep, "Jones had been considering a move to Bristol with the option of being sub-contracted to Sale", which wording seemed to me to write-off any possibility of the Brizz move being on.

Still, as you say, I said "not a word about Bristol" and that was wrong.

I really should not post during the evening after a long hard day at The Upton Blues festival!

A tad confused by TRP's business model - although they sell on-line single-issue and monthly subscriptions, it all seems to be freely available for the current and previous weeks' editions here?
