This looks like the key sentence:-

"Gold reckons there is a “direct correlation” between Warriors’ poor performances on the field and their efforts on the training ground leading up to match-day."

Am I right in interpreting this and much of the rest of the article as implied criticism of the coaches' methods prior to his, Gold's, arrival?

Think it's pretty direct criticism. We can attribute some of the upturn to Hougaard of course, but the intensity has definitely ramped up since Gold took over.

Yes, passion, new ideas, and not afraid to open his mouth to players and say what he wants.
(in the Diamond, Richards, Cockerill mould, but without those unpleasant rough edges)

I'd like to bet there are rough edges, which are left where they should be, on the training ground, in private.

A criticism of the fitness and conditioning too as Mr P Anson seems to have ramped things up too, so maybe NJ and his team weren't delivering either. Does the team seem to be starting and filling the 80 minutes better since GG came to town?

Certainly scoring tries at the end, if I remember correctly.
