12. Mills
11. Heem

10. Heathcote
09. Arr

01. Bower
02. Taufete'e
03. Schonert
04. Spencer
05. O'Callaghan (Cap)
06. Fao'siliva
07. Lewis
08. Denton

16. Singleton
17. Waller
18. Alo
19. Phillips

I have left te'o out as he could still be in his rest period post lions tour.

What would be your selection?

He'll have all July and August to rest and get back into training.

I'd pop Denton at 6, Mama at 8 and put Fao'siliva on the bench.

Swap Arr and Baldwn, T'eo at 12 and Mills on the bench for Shillcock

If that was the team then it would somewhat weaker than our best 23 of last season, so the coaches will have to work some considerable magic.
Why no Pennell JP?

It's good we have real competition at 15, 12/13, and 6/7/8.

As part of a regular season England players will continue to have, as a minimum, a 10 week off-season for rest and preparation prior to the first weekend of the Premiership Rugby season. On average last season, players involved in the England senior side played an equivalent of just over 23 matches, well under the maximum limit of 32.

10 weeks rest for Te'o, that will take him to mid September before he starts his pre season.

Does the style of play GG wishes to play come into the equation?

Does he pick players who would best suit that style? Or does he mould the style to the players he has? Probably elements of both given that he does not have unlimited resources at his disposal?

Waller for Bower, Pennell for HumphrEYs, Wynand for Mills. Bench looks distinctly average.

Don't write off Annett. He had injury issues last season but has proved himself a handy player

I would have Taufete coming off the bench. I rate Annett and if he is fit would have him in but there's also Singleton.

Isn't it good to not just have selection headaches but having decent back-up to justify these headaches!

1. Waller
2. Taufete'e
3. Schonert
4. O'Callaghan
5. Spencer
6. Denton
7. Lewis
8. van Velze (c)

9. Hougaard
10. Shillcock
11. Howe
12. Te'o
13. Olivier
14. Heem
15. Pennell

16. Singleton
17. Bower
18. Kerrod
19. Scotland-Williamson
20. Mama
21. Baldwin
22. Mills
23. Adams

Shillcock is our best goal-kicker at present and points mean prizes! Tough calls in the back row and hooker - serious depth there. I back Tom Howe to start, he has shown a lot of promise and could well fill his potential. Don't write off Adams or Humphreys either.

Think GJ brings a lot of leadership which may well given DOC the ability to rest this season. Hopefully we finally see CSW come good and have an injury free season. Willison is unlucky but you just can't omit the Lion Te'o and try-scoring prowess of Olivier.

Indeed. Was our bottom but one last season our most impressive season? Was it more impressive than staying up the season before?

We have a squad with a lot of potential. But looking around at the signings a lot of the other club's have made,i really think we're going to struggle next year without 1 or 2 quality additions.

Strong words I agree, but looking at all aspects of being a captain he has more.

Once Sanderson had a fight in the car park with a fellow player his ability to lead, motivate and control was in doubt. There was also a rather exclusive clique under his captaincy, commonly known as "the Cheltenham Mafia".

DOC is on a completely different level to Pat Sanderson.

IMHO of course

With you totally JP. Sanderson is the best 7 we have had, but he was eventually a divisive captain. DOC is quite the reverse and clearly commands the respect of players and coaches alike. For me PS has done enough to warrant comparison (he was made England captain), but for me DOC has it.

Dylan Hartley quoted Sanderson as always ignoring the academy lads and not even acknowledging them in the changing room. He could easily be the reason we lost the likes of Wood, Hartley, Blaze etc.

For me no one comes close to him as a captain.

With the quotes around DOC taking more time off rugby this season and taking breaks back home in Ireland, I would be surprised if he was made captain. He may be club captain but expect GJ/Arr/Potgieter to captain in his absence.

Will Spencer potentially with an outside shot at captaincy IMO, if not now then in a couple of years - or Mills - both are vocal on and off the pitch and are important players who start week in week out.

Phillips will either be a star in the Premiership or fade back to Championship.
That came from a Jersey supporter.
As for Annett, fully agree, but I like the added physicality that GI Joe brings & Singleton will only get better & better.
