I'd rather have hougaard for half a season than not at all, the sooner he's back the better but I'd rather not rush him and lose him for longer.
I'd like better back up for him but tbh we're weak all across the board as more than couple of injuries always hurts us badly

It's annoying about Hougaard but I agree with dkexile - let's get him right first. I think we were guilty of rushing Mills back too soon v Gloucester.

That said having Kerrod, Heem, Mills, and potentially Denton/Spencer back for the quins game would give us a boost.

I'd rather Hougaard for a whole season than half. But we are stuck with the fact that he is so good he gets selected for SA, yet so injured, he rarely plays for us. As with most of our players, it would be a moot point if back up were generally on par with FH when he plays.

I hope the clubs patience during these injury lay offs is rewarded.

Absolutely, I think enough for a win, without them all, yeah I'm a lot less optimistic

Just hope that wasn't because we kept him on to long at bath. Seeing the state of him, I would have taken him off wth 20 to go

Think Shillcock’s injury woes started last season in the home Ensei game when he played on, despite him looking floored by the knock.

A better warm-up might help?

Guardian article on "Activate", a new warm-up routine developed by University of Bath and England Rugby.

Quote:
Incidence of concussion was reduced by up to 60%, with lower-limb injuries down by as much as 40%. The closer the programme was observed by players, the greater the effect. The best results occurred when teams practised the warm-up at least twice a week.

Whatever you do, do it safely!

Matti Williams injury in last weeks cavaliers game was a fractured hand and he's out for 5 weeks. So with Annett out long term and Taufete back in the states on a break, do we onky have singleton as hooker for this weeks game?

It really does seem like as soon as we get players back in one position we lose them in another.

Hooker from the academy and Hammond to have a go at outside centre?

How far off is Mills?

The one mitigating factor here is that a number of other Prem teams are also suffering their injury crises.

How critical they might be to the individual teams' success is of course another matter, I accept, as an injury to a key player in one team cannot be balanced against that of a "mere" squad player in another.

The key factor though must be strength in depth. And to keep everyone "up to speed" squad rotation comes into the picture.

As it happens, at Worcester, there has been plenty of rotation - forced by injury!

Olivier now out for 10 weeks with a hamstring injury !

Big loss.

Injuries happen, but cynical me begins to wonder at how the spiral in injuries only seems to be getting worse as the off field nonsense remains unresolved.

Updated 08/11/17: 18 injures. Schonert/Baldwin/Barry/CSW/Stelling/Heem all returned. CSW may have picked up a niggle v Sale. Heathcote concussed again. Think Arr, GJVV, Denton, Hougaard, CSW, Pennell and Mills should all be back for Saints, possibly Quins this week.

Update, bad news on Wynand but in the press conference today Vesty said several players would return.

That's not good, feels like the whole season will pass without us being able to have our top 4 half backs available at the same time

It is surely getting to the stage where Heathcote has to be honest for himself and the club,
He played 60 odd minutes , didn't seem to get any kind of knock and he is again under HIA protocol again.
We had to be patient with Pennell earlier in his career and latterly Lewis, but the situation with Tom is getting beyond a joke.
Maybe he should take the insurance and quit ? We can then tell Quins and the oaf Matthews what we really think of him. I wonder with so much retrospective judgement in public life whether we could get Barnes to re-assess his decision not to even award a penalty yet alone a card, it was disgraceful IMHO.
Discuss.

I worry for both Arr and Heathcote with the concussions they have suffered over the past couple of seasons. If either were me then I would be stepping away from rugby for my long term health it just wouldn’t be worth the risk.

WBW is right - the brain is a delicate thing, and once it starts faltering its hard to bring back.

I am sure they have the appropriate medical advice, but you do wonder when the point will be that they have to retire to save their 'in 30 years time'

If this season has shown anything, it is the attrition rate in the Premiership. The figure of 25% of players being injured at any one time was mentioned at the meeting the other evening and it is not only Worcester who are signing replacements on short term deals.

The natural response to this level of injuries is to comment on strength in depth, or lack of it, and to suggest that each key position has at least two players of matching ability,

But how is all of this to be funded within the salary cap - even with its exclusions for marquee players and injury cover? How many clubs can actually afford to have two "world class 10s" covering each other's potential absences?

Poor lads they have both suffered a lot of head injuries the last few seasons.
I watched the Alan Shearer program on iPlayer last night it was fascinating how little we actually know about the effects of heading a ball on the brain long term let alone plenty of head collisions that happen in rugby.

Tend to think this latest concussion for Jonny may lead him and medical staff to decide it’s time to consider life after Warriors, sad as I would find it.

It may be the same for Tom too.

Warrior tackle count each game must be a factor in the frequency of concussions at the club.

Flipflop agree about Arr and Heathcote, also a good point about the amount of tackling we have to do.
Does DoC statement read that he may play somewhere after May 2018 but with less pressure?
From GG's statement we are going to have a very messy arrangement for the rest of the season.

He does indeed, but after a life in and around rugby, no doubting it will be a hard day when it happens. Hopefully he is able to get out before concussion causes him longer term issues. Real shame all the same as he is the last Junior to First team rep at the club iirc.
