... up before the beak.

Cited for charging into a ruck and making contact with the head/face.

If found guilty, then depending on how serious it's viewed, it might jeopardise him playing against us.

Whatever you do, do it safely!

This happens too frequently and is often not penalised.

If someone has their fingers in your eyes, would that make a valid excuse for biting? I know someone sitting on your face isn't an excuse.

Not a valid excuse, no. If taken into account at all, would probably be as a provocation and a mitigating factor, therefore, in sentencing: similarly, if it was the other way round.

Just to clarify, though, Louw has been charged with contact with the eye area, rather than the eyes.

Whatever you do, do it safely!

However some reactions are instinctive. We have no control over them. They are done at a sub-conscious level and the ‘logical’ part of the brain is removed from the decision making process.

It this considered?

Cavubati got pinged for biting despite having 15 stone on his face restricting his breathing.

No, this has been used as a defence and a punishment is still applied.

I remember a prop getting banned for biting the person who was in the process of gouging him.

One week for Mike. Three for Louw.
