Why have the Welsh teams started AWC a week late?

The welsh appear to have started a week late due to Pro 14. Does this offer them an advantage knowing what they need to do in the final fixture to decide who goes on?

Just seems strange given that the tournament is partly in their name. Yeap I know the who plays who format is weird already.

It's a shame but does anyone really care about the AngloWelsh?
Would love to see something different tried with this competition. Something coordinated across all the clubs.

Maybe make it very, very family friendly & cheap with under 12 5 or family of 4 25 and really push it through schools, clubs or Birmingham's large many non playing rugby BME population via temples & mosques.
The goal should be a full house, with new non rugby supporters, but do it across the whole of the country from Newcastle to Exeter to Swansea to Saints, every club with the backing of RFU & WRU pushing this competition around kids & families to open up the game to new supporters.

But unde current format, it serves no purpose at all.
Don't even think it has a sponsor, which is a shame as it often turns up a good game with unknown kids breaking through, but how many turned but last time 6,000 with huge gaps in the normal full season tickets.....shame and waste.

Rant over, will now go and walk dog while moaning at weather.

Chiefs supporter.
I agree in principle with your suggestion. However Chiefs gave out 4000 free tickets last week for the AW Saints game. Some were for the armed services which were most welcome. Obviously this boosted the gate but there were several complaints (me included) regarding poor behaviour and total lack of discipline from some people obviuosly not interested in the match. Freebies and cut prices may initially boost attendances but long-term may alienate the clubs core support.
That is my honest opinion.

Just a farm team from Devon.

I think the Welsh teams "catch-up" by playing their derby games on a Pro 14 weekend off, so that everyone plays their last fixture on the same weekend.

Whatever you do, do it safely!

It's not the first time - they definitely did it last year, not sure about before that.

From what I saw last weekend some of them haven't started yet.
