Has left Saints.

Hope the club look at him for us. A proven DOR in the premiership, even if he doesn't take the job or get offered it I would be annoyed if we didn't talk to him at least.

Re: Mallinder Gone
Patgadd 12 December, 2017 10:53
Yes please. 10 years of success followed by one of relative failure would be OK with me.

Re: Mallinder Gone
usa warrior 12 December, 2017 10:54
Suppose it depends on how far along in the process we are.

Agree he did good things early on with Saints but the team has gotten very stale of late. Maybe it just shows that you shouldn't stay too long in one place.

Re: Mallinder Gone
knightstemplar 12 December, 2017 10:59
Is he not coming then?

Re: Mallinder Gone

If you listen ever so quietly, you can hear the telephone at Sixways ringing, with calls from Agents of our potential DoR Candidates advising that something else has come up that their client wishes to look at, and removing their interest in our role...

Think Quins might be another post on offer soon too.

Not crowing, as our current plight is nonsense, but think it is likely.

Or the agents will realise they may not get either job but ruling them out of 1 would be counter intuitive and so therefore say nothing in the hope they get offered both jobs and then can make a decision on which is best for them.

Re: Mallinder Gone

...or Saints discovered Mallinder had applied for the DoR job here and sacked him before he could resign?

Re: Mallinder Gone

Sacking him will be £1,000’s more expensive than letting him resign

Bring senior and get junior as well?

Re: Mallinder Gone
FlipFlop 12 December, 2017 16:07
Depends how well he knows Jed McCrory..(Sm163)

He'll know our team are good after we beat them recently, but not sure i'd want his backroom team coming along as well. Don't want to lose the likes of Mefin or Sam in securing Mallinder's services, even if we, or rugby in general are of interest to him.

. Agree. One average season does not disguise th fact that he has had a lot mor success than we have. You know what you are going to get.....and that counts for alot. Yes, give him the job.

Oh come on TT- we're the dream ticket for over 30 applicants- BB said so in the WEN recently(Sm159)

Oh of course, like all those world class 10’s who were just about to sign but we just didn’t bother closing the deal.

Silly me.

That would somehow imply the club aren't to blame and aren't on a mission to harm supporters out of spite.

So no smiling smiley

Been on the cards for a while and will please a lot on the Saints MB, who have been calling on the club Board to act.

I note that the rest of the coaching team have been kept on.

I doubt he will be coming here: I thought that the closing date for applications had long passed. It would make a mockery of the process and be unfair on the shortlisted candidates if applications were reopened so that Jim could apply.

What if he then said no? If we offered it to one of the others who had previously applied it would be crystal clear it was only because we hadn't been able to get him. In those circumstances I would be inclined to tell the club to shove their offer.

All that said, given how things seem to be going at the moment, he's probably already been rung and offered an interview. (Sm16)

If I were him, however, I would be putting my feet up and looking forward to a Christmas off with the family.

Whatever you do, do it safely!

Well, I’d say the club are to blame right enough, but “on a mission to harm supporters out of spite”?

Really?

Agree that our deadline has been and gone. However, will not stop our applicants applying for the Saints job. Jim's merry band are apparently not popular at FG .

Re: Mallinder Gone

If the Warriors have not offered the job to anyone then I see no harm chasing a conversation with a now available high quality candidate.

According to the beeb:

‘Meanwhile, Worcester are continuing their search for a new director of rugby, with current incumbent Gary Gold leaving at the end of the season.

It is believed this position would be of interest to Mallinder, who is thought to be keen to return to coaching when the right opportunity arises’.

So you're in a restaurant and there's a chicken dish or a lamb dish on offer, both look ok but not earth shattering. You opt for the chicken and give your order to the waiter. Minutes later the waiter returns and advises you that a fillet steak has come available , can be cooked to your liking with all the trimmings. You change your mind and go for this.

Is that unfair on the chicken and lamb? After all they're both dead already

If some of the hysterical ranting and raving round these parts (naming no names) you'd think that Worcester fans were some of the most persecuted people in the world.

"It is believed this position would be of interest to Mallinder, who is thought to be keen to return to coaching when the right opportunity arises".

Apart from the beeb report being journalistic drivel, the element highlighted in bold by me, would indicate that we are unlikely to be in Mallinder's wishlist, due the current uncertainty surrounding the club ownership.

Frying pan and fire for Mallinder springs to mind.

Just wondering what people think has caused the decreasing form of Saints over the last 2 seasons and this one? 5th, 7th and currently just above us.
They are well funded, have a strong fan base and some excellent players. What has been going wrong?
Obviously these are better stats than ours but how much of this is due to the DOR?

Re: Mallinder Gone
usa warrior 13 December, 2017 19:58
Just failed to bring the right players in and they’re current stars are fading a bit.

Been said that Mallinder is a better manager/DOR than a coach and his subordinates have let him down I think.

Probably just got a little stale where he is and needs a change. Still a good DOR.

Re: Mallinder Gone
WorcesterSauce 13 December, 2017 21:57
They have an aging squad and IMO many of their players are past it and now over rated (myler, burrell, wood, pisi, foden) and They havent replaced the world class players they have had (picamoles, manoa and next year north) with anyone of similar quality.

Essentially Mallinder built a brilliant squad but has failed to rebuild it.

Re: Mallinder Gone
Warrior7 13 December, 2017 22:00
Allegedly the funds weren't made available to him, but to be fair Northampton have stagnated under him/the rest of the coaches as they seem to play a variation on Warrenball and then whip it round the corner, but have had the same game plan for as long as I can remember.

*so if someone matches them physically and sees where their strike runners are coming from, they are pretty ineffectual.

Re: Mallinder Gone
Woody 14 December, 2017 03:09
I am not suggesting Mallinder is not a good DOR, he has been around the top of the game for some time.
I would want a clear understanding of why, with such a team, it has been allowed to stagnate. They do have some up and coming England players of the future.
The game has evolved quickly over the last few years, I agree with you Warrior7 that Saints have had a singular forward dominance game plan relying on the brilliance of North and Pisi to create outside of that. Pisi is fading and was embarrassed against Adams, North has had injuries and lacked service because teams have worked them out, but is still a Lions quality player.
It is this 'Warrenball' approach that bothers me. I would jump at the chance of having a number of their players and feel that if they were in our set up we would be top six today.
Mallinder would need to show the board he has and can continue to evolve with the game.

Re: Mallinder Gone
FlipFlop 14 December, 2017 06:07
He would also need to show that he would tap into our talented and promising Academy players so we don’t see happen at the club, what happened when it was all dismantled.

Not sure i’d want his back room staff over our own and don’t want a cluster of their old stagers who we beat recently, displacing our current squad.

Not sure a treasure chest of funds is just around the corner either from whoever owns the club.

Make it a wagyuu ribeye and I would be tempted but fillet ? Even when cooked perfectly lacks the flavour of any cut of lamb - slow roast or quickly grilled either way over fire. Mutton - now there is a flavoursome meat.

Anyway - for what it is worth I would take Mallinder over two other “undisclosed” options - whoever they are - better the devil you know and over ten years Saints would be ranked 3rd overall in league points - that’s good enough for me.

After all the other two objects could be fillet dressed as mutton.

Wagyu beef is very expensive compared to chicken or mutton much more bang for your bucks! No brainer
