Beyond disappointed. Massive loss and a significant one too. Getting bored of us not progressing and losing our players now...especially to Tigers too.

Best of luck Will...should definitely be in the England squad sooner rather than later and definitely be starting too.

And weíve announced.....

Starting to bother me this club. Usually I try to stay positive but how can you be with Warriors? Itís got past tedious for me now to a point that Iím bored of it.

Iíll support the club because I have an affinity towards it but @#$%& my frustrations levels are through the roof. You just get the feeling we will never progress,always loose our best talent and either get relegated or be down the bottom.

I hope Solly has someone equally as good as Spencer because he gave our pack a huge edge. Weíve lost two potential exciting locks with CSW who was huge as well as Will.

Huge loss, great signing for them. Going to stay positive for now given weíve kept hold of two of our three most influential players, but we have basically lost the only player in the whole squad who breaks the gain line.

Do you get the bad news out first before the good...?

Probably not but this, though a serious loss, is not unexpected. It was a very strong rumour.

I think back to the early Gold days at the revival last Spring. He was a key factor then, a real go forward forward and played a large part in our staying in the Premiership.

It's a Worcester paradox. Players like Spencer must stay so that Worcester can get off the bottom of the table but such players go because Worcester is always at the bottom of the table!

It does feel like death by a thousand cuts. Even good clubs loose good players but they replace them . I suspect we will have real problems recruiting until the ownership is sorted out and by then it may be too late or not in their plans. As the scientists say "we simply don't know"

For Will and for England hope he does. He has everything in his locker to be a top player and a massive asset to Englandís pack. The physicality he brings is immense and England will only benefit with him either being in the starting 15 which heís capable of or at least being a ďfinisherĒ

Fingers crossed for him and not Tigers that he stays healthy and performs well and shows what heís capable of

Not unexpected but a huge loss nevertheless. No loyalty in sport these days.

Don't blame Spencer for leaving but neither do I wish him all the best. I don't wish him anything (the best, harm, anything). He's just irrelevant now. Just another player at another rival club.

On Spencer best of luck to him he has given his all in a Warriors shirt, I don't begrudge him a move to a bigger club itís just a shame that we are stuck in the cycle of sign a player who cannot get games, give them games and then they sign for a bigger club.

Gutted even if it was expected, we need a stronger pack and it's going to be nigh on impossible to replace a player of his quality.

The pack is in desperate need of reinforcements and they need to be of a higher quality than what we've got.

I, like mailman, accept a player wanting to move to a bigger club, but I can't wish someone luck in going to play for a rival club. That's his choice, I'll thank him for what's he's done for us, but I can't wish he does well for our rivals.

From what I've heard from an insider things will be resolved at the end of the season, far too late to save next season, or perhaps this one.

They might have enjoyed being at the club though and I'm sure they are grateful but they came for a job and it's their right to move on if they think it's better for them.

This is why we need the academy to thrive as the way to get players who want to stay is by home growing them, bringing them through the system so they have deep roots.

Players are free to sign for and enjoy there time with us before moving on. Spencer is trying to get and England call up playing for Tigers in the Champions Cup is better than playing for Worcester against some average Russian team with an attendance of 3 people.

Because they are ultimately responsible for the farce that is currently WW. Itís called accountability. It this was a company with shareholders the board would have been hauled across the coals by now.

But it isnít so we canít hold a vote of no confidence, of which I have very little of at the moment regarding the running of the club and our currrent situation.

I dont think anyone can deny his words in the media havent been misleading. I understand where we are in the food chain and understand players come and go but why come out and say how much you love it at Worcester and then move less than a month later. He almost certainly knew at the time of the interview wirh Worcester News that he'd be at Leicester next season, the article says that he'd already had an offer. It's just a bit of a d1ck move and one which there is no need for.

Huge disappointment that Spencer is leaving but canít blame him for pursuing international honours through plying his trade at Welford Road.

Why is he moving - these factors canít have helped:
- club ownership is unknown next season;
- our DOR left mid season;
- our club captain is retiring in May;
- results have been poor and we are in a relegation battle (once again);
- attendances are not what they were and matchday atmosphere is often insipid;
- recruitment at other clubs looks better.

Maybe the SRU takeover will enable Gray, Toolis and Gilchrist to move to Worcester next season LOL.

Of course he isnt going to tell the press 'im off' but it's not like he had the choice of saying 'im off' or 'i love it here' and that's it..... why couldnt he have just chosen the middle ground. I disagree, he's unfortunate that England have never had such strength at lock, but he's still top 5 in the country and by the look of it both Eddie Jones and tigers feel the same.
His gain line presence has been brilliant with only Denton making a similar impression, I certainly wouldn't worry about him letting England down.

This was a major kick in the gut, comes out and says he is liking the club and then signs for Tigers. Based on past history of Worcester players going to Leicester he will play a max of 30 games for tigers. Although I could be wrong.

He actually looked a little sheepish and said that the interview had come at a tricky time in the negotiations, and I think he genuinely felt a bit awkward about it. I wished him well but said how will we get any better of our best players keep leaving; as he was with Carl Kirwin I did indicate that we were pleased that he was still with us but asked if he would grow another few inches to play at lock.

I understand the reason Spencer gave to the club was he wanted to play for a team in the Top 6 and playing top level European rugby as he sees shining in those games as the only way he will get an England spot, we offered him a significant amount of money and he has signed for Tigers for considerably less money than we offered him.

I can't remember if I heard that Eddie had given Will some things to work on. I hope so, as that will provide the motivation to play at 100% for the rest of the season.

If he wants to play for England as he says he does he'll have to give 100% for Jones to consider him anyway, he has no time for slackers.

Wouldn't surprise me if he gets a few England Caps in the years to come.
Also Tigers have been terrible this year, believe we will see a different club next year.

Patgadd my trousers were nought against you yellow ones. Mine were made from the offcuts of Archbishop Carey's inauguration robes. I only wore then because my man was away with TT's man in Cortina sorting out the chalet after Christmas.
Fiver you must always have something to strive for !!smiling smiley
Back on topic Spencer should obviously play , it is what he is paid to do.

I usually reserve my gold trousers for Warriors games. At other times I may be found in the red, purple (yes), pink, bright blue or green ones or in one of various shades of rust - or perhaps a brighter colour on special occasions.

Purple? Well there goes any chance I ever had of becoming middle class. People really need to stop raising the bar.

Fiver, even if you become middle class, ROLLO will still look down on you and you will still have to look up to him.

I know my place.

Anyway, back to Spencer. Here's Denton's opinion:-

[www.worcesternews.co.uk]

I think this implies that it was indeed not money which was the issue - but the likelihood of international recognition. This ties in with comments above. There continues to be a prejudice, it would seem, that England only select from certain clubs. I'm not sure that this is correct but there is maybe evidence to the contrary. If there is nothing to choose between player A and player B except that Player A plays for, say, a heritage club and Player B plays for a bottom feeder, is it Player A who is always chosen?

I think it's more European games, if you look good in the champions cup you're more likely to get picked.

Jones doesn't have the club prejudice that others might have had imho.

Jones has been a frequent visitor to Sixways this season, he ( like Trump ) is different. Look what has happened to Kruis who plays for Saracens.
I think that playing in front of 20K + may have had a part in Will's decision. IMHO you could be playing for Penzance 2nds it would not make one iota of difference to EJ - top bloke.

I think it helps if EJ can see how a player copes with different styles of play, such as you'll find in the Pro14 and Top 14. It's always better to see how they perform against the best players, as that's who they'll face in test matches. Seeing how Will squares up against a bottom French team who put out their seconds isn't the same as the Toulon first team.

Lets not forget that a pay cut, in the short term, could offer far more in the future in terms of International payments.

I think it was quoted that Marler will lose at least 50k (2 England games) due to his reckless charge in the Sale game!

I'm pretty sure a seasoned test player earns more in endorsements than salary.

This is a bit of a long one, sorry. I've been thinking about this (unlike my normal posts).

Thing is, it's no longer as simple as playing for a top club and playing well at that, though obviously it doesn't harm your chances. With EJ in charge, we've seen several players added to the squad pretty much straight from the u20s, or at least because their traits were seen by England coaches during their time in age group rugby. Clearly the commitment to the 'pathway' isn't all talk.

If the choice is between a squad player who's the second, third or fourth best in their position in England and a recent academy graduate who could become better than the incumbent, then it seems commonplace for the latter to get the place. Or at least recently.

Obviously it's an exaggeration to say it's not important to play at a big club and be noticed playing well against the best that Europe can offer, it's also true to point out that it's no longer the only consideration.

Added to that is the fact that EJ also seems to put store in things like: how you fit in to the tactics he wants to play; what your personality is like; how you respond to his coaching; and even your personal background. This is why you have players like Goode, Wade, Morgan and Robson completely outside the squad.

So while Spencer and other players might be looking to move to a club consistently playing in the big euro trophy to get into a first choice England shirt, they might be trying to play by rules that don't exist any more.

Can't argue with that Underdog. Given that Will's leaving us, I'm not actually bothered if he gets an England call up. In fact, it's better for our future retention if he doesn't.

I don't necessarily buy the having to "move for international recognition" statement either.

Possibly more recognition in a higher profile club, but you can't move for seeing Josh Adam's name in the media today, so if you're good enough you'll make it.

So if not that, what... coaching would be my next go to. Does Will feel he'll be able to develop more at Tigers based on their forwards coaches?

Always tough love from Tigers.

Probably wondering what itís come too if theyíve got to recruit a Warrior to boost their squad.

As I said earlier in the thread, our very good are Tigers meh. If he performs, heíll get their one eyed praise.

Joins the list of people moving from Warriors to Tigers and then went on to do what ?

I guess the grass must look greener.
