I'm beginning to like this guy Solomons - he seems to have a bit of a rugby network and coaches and players happy to come and work for him. Bodes well as does the heady heights of winning a couple of league games on the bounce. Wonder if he has had a word with our owners and sponsors in getting committments (inc. the re-signings) and money released. Would suggest he has.

I’d agree that’s he’s doing a great job so far, but let’s not forget that we had a pretty good few months when Gary Gold first joined, then failed to win a game in 7 rounds at the start of this season. It could just be temporary, an upturn in form usually happens briefly when a new coach comes in.

Let’s hope not on this occasion, things are looking food so far.

I totally agree with the above. I was sceptical when he first got appointed but so far so good! Seems like a really good bloke.

Yes. I was certainly underwhelmed with his appointment. However, I guess it's important to remember that sometimes success is several factors all coming together at the same time. Perhaps the players we have, the coaches and the style of play we want to have all just clicked.

One always wonders whether the changes next season will improve things or make them worse.

Given the lack of recruitment, compounded by the pre-season injuries and uncompromising opening fixtures, not many of us realistically expected much, if anything, from those seven games.

The record of five wins from the last eight have obviously lifted spirits, but it would be nieve to discount a number of contributing factors and just put it down to the arrival pf Solly.

Looks like second row is the area where we still need to recruit.

Agreed

Agree second row ahead of Haskell, but just remember recruitment under Hill - Fatiaki and Matavesi, and just Te'o under Ryan. Just got a feeling we are not behind the curve this time. And yes, there was Gold and his legacy of bringing in Solomons. Denton going and straight away Du Preez. And Scott Van Breda - a SA goal kicker, not to mention a new young but known coach in Rory Duncan. Solomons is connected and a man on a mission with all behind him, in my view.

I always thought Matavesi was under-rated. He went to Ospreys and was really good for them for several seasons. He's now at Falcons and he had a very good game in the win against Bath on Friday night.

For whatever reason, we didn't get the best out of him.

Whatever you do, do it safely!

Matavesi was very immature and young when with us. If you recall he was overweight and not the greatest trainer by all accounts. Still a quality player who could open up a defence with some sublime skills.

Suspect he just grew up a bit after he left.

And/or met some more demanding and skilled coaches than we had at the time.

Definitely overweight but still very talented

I remember his first season with us he was quick and his one trick worked well. The next season he was twice the size and half as fast. I don't know what our S&C team did to him that year but it really did him no favours. Maybe he's just learnt how to get some speed up with all that extra bulk.
