Pleased to see that Will's injury was not as serious as previously thought.

That's a strong squad with a few players already with significant prem experience.

Good to see Marcus Smith,Gabriel Ibitoye,Ben Curry and Will in there. 4 players that can really make the difference to the team that played the Junior Boks a few weeks back. England really lacked leadership in the backs and Smith and Willy Butler will certainly provide that. Ibitoye is absolutely lethal on the wing and an unbelievable finisher. Curry will be the fetcher at 7 and provide steel in the back row with Ted.

Hopefully England will start with the bench front row next time around too. They destroyed the Boks at scrum time so hopefully they’ll find the right mix

Ollie Lawrence left out, not sure why? Before someone says cos he's in the senior squad for the Barbarians game - Marcus Smith is listed in both, so why not Ollie.

I'm also not sure why England don't go full strength and list several of their U20s from the senior squad - Cokanasiga, T.Curry, Isiekwe, Earl, Redpath, Mercer, etc. I'm not sure many will get much test action against South Africa so why not give them some meaningful gametime.

It depends what you see as success when it comes to the u20 players. Is it winning the cup year on year, or is it them finishing the pathway and getting into the England squad. I remember Dean Ryan saying that winning it every year and doing nothing with the players would be a failure, so I guess the answer's there.

I suppose a third interpretation is that Eddie has deliberately picked the brightest prospects to inject some unabashed enthusiasm into the squad. Not necessarily a bad thing either.

I.

Is he in the U18 age group at the moment rather than U20's?

I'm now wondering if the apprentice England players are Eddie's idea, or Dean Ryan's (maybe greater RFU diktat).

As far as I can see, there's just a highlights package on late on itv4.

A shame as I recall them playing a lot of the matches last year. Maybe not enough people watched.

Edit: ah - cheers USA.

Just been told that it is all the games, so hopefully that is the case.

Ted Hill did very well, despite being pinged once and knocking on once (terrible pass to him); pretty sure to start again. Beck came on with about 20 minutes to go and did fine; came very close to scoring.

Usual U20’s pace, frenetic fast game.

Very entertaining.

Shame about the commentary.
