I see that opposite numbers at the Stoop have elected to set up a new board.

No doubt they will take their towels with them.

Can't argue with their reasoning (I find it particularly annoying that the search facility has been broken for months years).

The main reason for originally moving here (from the arguably better messageboard software we already had) was the ease of referencing other Club's messageboards as 'everyone else' was using the facility. If other Clubs are now drifting away, little to keep us here - the decision will be whether to go with the flow or go it alone.

The one thing that might prevent a change could be the thought of having to start the word association thread from scratch winking smiley
(I see Quins' new thread is only up to 62 words)

The risk is one of diluting content by ending up with more than one board,

We all remember when the offie forum was alive- just- and the negativity that occasionally broke out because certain sensitive souls thought there was a “clique” on this board. (Largely because someone had the temerity to express a different opinion to theirs’)

I’d be relaxed about changing boards, but concerned that any new board would risk splitting the content, there aren’t really that many regular posters on here. Although it always interests me that there is a wider readership than we realise, I know for certain of 5 lurkers who read everything but never post.

let’s see how Quins get on.

Genuine question as I'm not on Facebook and never will be, consequently know little of it's workings - why do people post(?) on FB rather than on the forum?
What are the advantages? I'm assuming there must be some?

All I can think of is the ability to upload images easily and being able to like a post withou posting.

I still prefer this forum for discussion and opinions.

Different people on there is the only reason. Their opinions to seem to be a little less informed, however, and their reactions a little less balanced...

There are 2.3k members on the Facebook page and I would agree with USA tbh.. There is a HUGE swing in tone from wining to losing. There is also a good few who resent being moderated to say the least.

Would it be fair to suggest people like Facebook due to not needing to construct sentences, let alone worry about spelling or grammar. Also, the emojis are better. Oh, and you can like and share stuff, and tag friends, and upload pictures and videos without needing a degree in HTML. And relentlessly duplicate the thoughts of others because it doesn't show you all of the other comments, or you're too lazy to read them. And there's a really easy phone app which buzzes every time someone comments, or likes, or anything really.

Ah Fiver, you may have it there.

Using this board, then, being roughly the equivalent of going to the local library to read the morning papers, and having whispered conversations about the state of the world with the other old codgers.

Fine. That’ll do me.

May need to have the mods accept posts on the FB group in order to prevent duplicate posts.. But that would be very tiresome from a mod point of view. Doesn't apply to comments but new posts only.

I'm surprised the Donald hasn't been on the phone already: I understand he has a couple of vacancies due to recent resignations. :-))

Whatever you do, do it safely!

Quite!

Being less diplomatic - I stopped frequenting because it had gone, frankly, feral.

It has calmed down a bit now TVM... Some posters didn't like the rules so they left.. or had their access curtailed.. (Sm100)

Didn't they start their own splinter forum where the only rule is that there are no rules?
