I think way back in the mists of time I put this chaps name on the forum as a project player.

Yes, Rollo, I did see

Remain unsure what a project player is or was. I think the term is now redundant

Its an easy way out if they fail to make an impact. Project player not making the step up sounds better than ‘bad signing’ 🤓

Not possible. He isn't Academy and therefore must count.

I don't see it as an "easy out" at all. He's a young guy who has played internationally, albeit a lower tier nation, and in the French third division. He's never really been in a professional environment, however he comes extremely highly endorsed.

He's a "project" and no doubt Mef will work his magic. From what I've heard, when he's properly fit, the guy will be one serious player.

My meaning as yours USA, for the benefit of these players, they don't want to be known as 'only project players'. They now have 1st team contracts and will train to make the team. They have to start somewhere and can't all be the marquee, England star, highest try scorers etc as new arrivals, and fully deserve to be in contention. 'New starters' might have been an alternative term for Farai and those promoted from the academy, as opposed to what might have been converts from rugby league Australia for example, which is more what I was expecting.
