The Edinburgh win should give us a play off place at the very least now so some dates for the diary just in case. As tables stand it would be either Quins or Racing or Toulouse or Newcastle

19-21 May 2017

Play-off 1: Aviva Premiership v PRO12

Play-off 2: TOP 14 v PRO12

The PRO12 clubs' opponents to be decided by a draw

The Premiership and TOP 14 clubs will have home advantage

26-28 May 2017

Play-off Final: winner Play-off 1 v winner Play-off 2

Home advantage to be decided by a draw

The winner of the Play-off Final will take the 20th place in the 2017/18 Champions Cup

Thanks - could you explain how it would work? How would a non-top 6 Pro 12 get this pay off place?

The rule is Top 7 Pro 12 qualify but only if they have include one Welsh, one Irish , one Scottish and one Italian team so highest ranked Italian team goes through etc. There are additional slots outside of automatic qualification which means the 7th and 8th placed Pro12 teams will go through to playoff v 7th French side or a French side who wins the Challenge Cup and 7th place English side.
At the moment that is Quins or Racing.
As the table stands the Top 6 in Pro12 will qualify unless we overtake Glasgow because they will have to go through as top ranked Scottish side.
If we get 7th or 8th spot this year we will play off away at whoever finishes 7th in Aviva or Top 14 ( or cc winner)

Clear as mud

Thanks! Bit of a dog's dinner really - reading Richard Holland on Twitter we still don't make it by overtaking Glasgow as they need to be in it for Scotland.
My mate is an O's fan who suggested we'd be ok if they won challenge cup and went through as winners - but that doesn't seem to be the case either.
So if I've understood correctly we can only get through by coming low enough to enter the play offs and winning those. If we overtake Glasgow or win the challenge cup then we don't make it through.
Crazy situation.
However, regardless of the cup competition I'll be happy if we achieve Danny's stated aim of top 6. Thought that was out if the question midway through second half Friday - not a pretty win but hell of a load of guts and spirit to have achieved the result.

If we overtake Glasgow in 6th or finish 7/8 we will go through to the playoff. The Os winning the CC would not work as that was the old rules under HC and under these rules Scarlets would be next highest ranked Welsh team.
