Whilst the scrapping of the play-offs is a welcome step in the right direction, the increase in RFU funding to Championship clubs is peanuts. The relegated Premiership club gets £3 million plus, the highest existing Championship club will be lucky to see a quarter of that.
So what we have, in effect, is a 13 club Premiership, whereby one club is sent to the naughty step for a season before bouncing back after a season of repentance in the Championship, the sentence being playing without cameras in front of perhaps 900 people and changing in Portacabins.
Surely the RFU can support the 14th-24th best clubs in England better than this?
