Yes, well, here we go again (sort of). Heightened excitement from HV, the Newlyn Steak Club is back in the player sponsorship business and very excited to be associated with the mighty Tom Duncan.

Encouraging performance with all of the new faces showing up well. The 2 D/R players from the chiefs impressed when they came on for the 2nd half. Plenty to work on and a much tougher test awaits against an Exeter XV next Saturday.

We look a lot sharper than we did at the same stage last season. Set piece looked very solid and defence was committed and well organised. Rolling maul functioned really well Looks like we got through without any bad injuries, unlike Aberavon who had two men sustain what looked like nasty injuries - hope they recover soon.

Not going to get carried away, but, this was an impressive performance. A most pleasing aspect being the way that the 'newbies' fitted in, and yes, the overall sharpness of the squad.
In particular the defence was solid, and i don't think Aberavon were that bad: but our first up tackles were quick and quite heavy, stopping any progress early. Add to that some snappy handling, good decision making and swift feet, there is real potential here.

Getting excited again.....

Overall a good performance, defence was outstanding, the players seem to be a yard quicker than last season.Nice to have a pack that look as though they will be able to hold their own this coming season.Much sterner tests to come, but the boys did well. Not a bad crowd really considering it was a Saturday, and plenty of people still playing cricket etc
Should be an interesting season, lots of chat about the cut in budgets that most sides seem to have had to make this season.
