Mennaye double header Dec 2nd and 3rd

Two cracking games in prospect at the weekend. On Saturday (2.30) Pirates Amateurs take on Plymouth Argaum. Ams had a great win on Saturday when they won a gripping game 32-29. Ams went down to 14 men after about 20 mins of the first half, but showed great commitment to dig in and secure a brilliant result. Former CP professional Steve Evans was inspirational, playing at No.8 and centre, scoring tries, kicking goals and making tackles.
On Sunday CP take on Bedford, and these are traditionally high scoring, exciting games. Can the boys follow up the great win at Richmond with another W?

Another nail biter today, finished Ams 34 Plymouth Argaum 27. Ams 10 - 27 down early in the second half, but fought back to win a very tight, end to end game. Winning try scored by replacement Daniel Rhys Evans, son of the evergreen Steve Evans, who was a key man today as usual.
Hoping CP can complete the Pirates double tomorrow.

Another pulsating game against a very impressive Bedford team. Our boys were brilliant today, with 100% commitment in defence and some excellent attacking rugby. Tom Lawday's try was spectacular. Special mention to Dan Frost, who played the whole game and scored a try. Understandably we had a couple of line out malfunctions, but that is fixable when Dan's been here for a few more training sessions. Jack Andrew had a stormer and deservedly got man of the match.

Yes, two good wins, BUT I still can't see the sense in playing an amateur game this time of year, on a heavy pitch the day before a championship match. Surely, this could have been avoided? Luckily, it didn't rain and, to be honest, the pitch stood up much better than we had first thought when we arrived at the ground......Both sides to their credit, did in fact produce some good running rugby in probably one of the best games we have seen for some time.

It's a fact of life that we share the ground. Pirates Amateurs, Colts and Mini/Juniors are vital for rugby in Penzance. This doesn't happen very often, and as you say, Bolingey, it wasn't a problem as the pitch was fine. Had the weather been unkind The Ams would have moved to another venue, but this has a big impact on their finances when it happens. We all hope that CP will move to Truro sooner rather than later, but until they do the two sections have to cooperate and make the best of the ground sharing. The Ams, Colts and Juniors are the future of rugby in Penzance and a lot of dedicated people give up a lot of time to ensure there is rugby for all ages at the club. There is a much improved relationship these days, and long may that continue.

Move to Truro? Who knew? Flock of pigs just flew past me

The harsh reality is that if we don't make the move to Truro the future would be pretty bleak.

A question for Stalwart, who owns the Mennaye and can it be used as
collateral for the Pirates future move to Truro. Has it got development
use with community sides moving to new site.
Thank you.

The Mennaye is council owned, so no collateral. There is a covenant on it that prevents building.

I believe Mennaye ownership is a very similar situation to that of Camborne RFC's ground....perhaps that was one of the several contributing factors to the demise of the ground share agreement some years ago??
It will be interesting, to see if Cornwall Council has the same caring attitude to their owned sports facilities, as the original Penwith and Kerrier Councils had prior to 2010....I have my doubts, as there have already been rumours about the future of Camborne's ground !!
....just a thought...!!!
