Cornish Pirates vs Bedford Blues
Referee: Anthony Woodthorpe
Assistant referees: Michael Patz, Ian Bibey
Assessor: Tony Spreadbury
Citing commissioner: Wade Dooley

Clearly the RFU still have a sense of humour appointing Wade Dooley as a Citing Commissioner. At least he will be familiar with their citing policy and appearing at disciplinary hearings.

Wouldn't think too many people would feel like arguing with him! When he was playing for England I once watched the players come in from their bus and when he walked past he was just about the scariest looking guy I had ever seen in my life.

I think he was a policeman - nobody resisted arrest!

Wade Dooley was involved in the infamous battle of Cardiff and his opposite number was another Policeman Steve Sutton from the South Wales force.I actually played in a game where they were the 2nd rows at 6'8 and 6'9 respectively and they were probably the biggest pair of locks in the Country at the time. They could also handle themselves and both were well known 'enforcers' in their teams.

Just heard on the lunchtime sports news that Chris Fuca has returned to Redruth for this weekends game where he will be joined by Matt Evans who will play his first competitive match after injury. Great news for Matt and many thanks to Chris for his efforts this season.

According to the coaches on Tuesday evening, Fuca will be back but Reds need him for a couple of important games coming up. Hopefully Matt will come through unscathed and be back with us very shortly. Plenty of injured guys returning soon, but we have three hookers injured and Fish has gone back to Saints.

Good to know that both clubs are seemingly working together, long may it continue.

An injury crisis at hooker means Dan Frost has joined us from Nat 3 side Taunton and goes straight into the starting line up. Pirates Amateurs hooker Danny Toolan again take his place on the bench.

Tough job for a hooker brought in last minute - line outs might be a challenge. No Marlen Walker. But a good team, and a strong bench.

What's happened to Marlen? I had suspected for the last few weeks that somthing had been up with him and that maybe he'd been carrying an injury for a while, which was why he's been on the bench and not starting. Looks like the wheels have finally fallen off. Did L C-D pick up a knock last week? Or has he picked up an injury in training this week?

LCD injured last week awaiting details, but could unfortunately be some time, a great shame as he's done a really good job this season

I think you mean Tom Cowan-Dickie and I recall in last weeks commentary that there was a lengthy stoppage when he was receiving treatment. He has had a tremendous start to the season with his all action displays and we will miss him on Sunday.

Great result for the Pirates against a very dangerous Bedford side. An important win built on a huge defensive effort. We also produced some fine attacking play putting Bedford under pressure to claim a fine victory. Very difficult to pick out a MoM as everyone put in a great shift but special mention to Hooker Dan Frost in his first game and number 8 Tom Lawday for a superb individual try.

Well, if that game doesn't bring that crowd back again, nothing will. Stunning performance by every player and the Coaches......and of course the back room boys and girls. There was nothing to show that there were a few casualties missing and the young hooker (from Taunton?) was a star performer.

Unfairly I must mention the forwards and Paves. As Howard and I walked past the visitors changing rooms we were blocked by a procession of 23 Alpine Bedford mountains - they were huge! I don't know how Paves does it but he needs to bottle it and sell it - never a back ward step and yet again the smaller 'Davids' slew the Giants.

But this was a real squad performance....and a massive effort from the crowd who never stopped and played their part throughout.

Proud to be a Geordie Pirate!

Great result. Too much kicking in the first half, awesome performance all round. Well done

The coaches explained, at great length on Tuesday evening, the reasons for when we kick and when we run. It is planned extremely thoroughly based on the evidence of what works and what doesn't. Our kicking today was generally very good and the result, against a very dangerous Bedford team, justifies our game plan I reckon.

I think the most complete game in a couple of years. We were never going to looose against a vey good side. Be interesting to see how we do up the hill on the return game

Brilliant game and some of the tackles that were put in were sublime. Scrum also functioned really well. All in all a superb game of rugby. Well done PIRATES!!

Great tussle between two well matched and well drilled teams. As last week at Richmond a real 'never-say-die' performance from the Pirates atlhough they stepped up at least a couple of notches as Bedford are a much more powerful - and bigger! - squad than Richmond.

Loved it!

Agree, Steve, and, as a supporter, I love to see that sort of team spirit and commitment. Gav and Paves "get" what it is to be a Pirate, and have clearly transferred that passion to the squad. With Matt Evans, Paul Andrew and Morgs to come back soon, and the signing of Matavesi, things are looking good for the rest of the season.
