The Mail is more often called the Heil by people who don't agree with it's political standing. Dotcom's a Corbynista. I've got no problem with that. Each to their own. A little bit of spice on this site doesn't do any harm. We don't want to follow the snowflake generation. People need to learn to agree to disagree. (I could agree with you Dotcom...but then we'd both be wrong...) Dotcom.. my shout next time I see you in The Dock.
I have no problem with people having particular political views, but I don't think it's appropriate for this site. Let's just keep it about rugby and have our political discussions elsewhere.
These are not political points, these are comments about a newspaper which presents opinion as fact.
This is relevant because the thread includes an article published in the Mail.
Just about every newspaper today presents opinions as facts. The days of objective journalism has long gone.... our local organ The Cornishman being one of the worst offenders.
Couldn't agree more C B . In addition, the "Cornwall Live" website is annoyingly slow with both adverts, and unnecessarily (and often irrelevant) video clips to slow down the proceedings !! I don't bother now with either the "West Briton" or their website.
I, too, agree the Cornishman is a waste of money and that was before it went up in price.
The website is probably the worst website I have logged on to and I've got 300 mbps. The only reason I buy it is to see who is in the obituaries.
Re the ‘Daily Fail’ insert in this thread - As Administrator of this forum dotcom particularly should keep his political comments/remarks to himself and remain impartial.
And the fact the story appeared in the Daily Mail isn’t the point at all, the fact that this newspaper reported the story is clearly being taken advantage of by some to make their political sympathies known. Otherwise keep such remarks to the article and not the vehicle delivering it.
The story could have equally appeared in The Socialist (If indeed it covers sport!)
So political points/opinions are being made.
Me?
I am not interested in your political leanings.
I visit this forum to read about the Cornish Pirates and Cornish rugby and the S4C (which IMHO is the only topic worthy of any political discussion here, a topic which, hopefully, all of us should be agreed on.
In the last two days some of you were getting exercised over an 80 year old man writing a letter to the Falmouth Packet as if it’s going to affect Cornish sport and politics and the S4C.
Get real.
(BTW, I am not a reader of the Daily Mail or The Socialist).
Old Tommy Bray and his opinions are one of the reasons there has been such a delay in the S4C sorry saga. A fossil who should retire from public life IMO. And let’s be honest, all of our opinions matter. I read the Daily Mail, some of it is good some bad, so what? Am I to be vilified for owning up to this terrible discretion, in that I could be influenced by such a rag? Total bow locks
Thanks for moderating Porthusek Pirate. Without you it would be a free for all.
As a matter of interest I wonder just how much politics is really involved in the S4C? Is it not just finance that is holding the S4C back? Or do you believe there is politics involved? Can't see the Tory MP's being against it. The LibDems are irrelevant. Has the Labour party any say in the matter down in Cornwall? Doubt it. Not even Cornwall Council would stop it if the money was there.
So which politician is stopping the S4C? Or rather, which political organisation is stepping in our way.
I know 7 years or so ago the Council refused the Stadium.....or rather refused to take over the financial running of the stadium after so many years. The most backward decision ever taken for so many people.
But today the permission is there. The diggers can be sent in. All that is holding it up is investment....or money.
I don't think CC will stand in the way of the S4C. They won't put any cash in because some of them don't have the foresight to see the benefits (and because they don't have any.)
