Great for Phil. Not the best of recent generations (Alberto / Dave Ward for me) but right up there and probably the player I have most enjoyed watching. Some amazing tries. 2 I saw spring to mind. One in a losing effort at London Welsh, which Steve Winn told me afterwards actually embarrassed the backs, because Burgess was the only player in the squad who could have got over from where he did. The other was the one that sealed the semi final tie at Bristol. Game had broken up and he found space on our 10m line and ran around everyone. There is a great picture of that pleasant Scott Hopson fellow grimacing on the floor having tried to tackle Phil but got nowhere near
