It was odds on to be honest, at least he's with an ambitious club looking to climb the ladder, wish him and Coventry all the best.

Tom spent six weeks playing for Coventry last season, when both the regular scrum halves were injured. He fitted in well, and although he was released back to Saints as soon as they were fit again, the feeling was that he was a better player than either of them.

The coaching aspect of his role has not been announced at Coventry, but it is very likely to be accurate. Coventry's ambition is to get a decent development pathway to the first squad established in club, a good start was made last season, and I am sure his experience would be valued..

Tom will be a great asset to Cov. Very fine player and a top man. I thought he was hard done by at Saints - always looked good when given a chance, but always sidelined again too quickly.
